Term 5 2024 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 27 Thursday 18th April 2024
Welcome back to a new term filled with excitement and opportunities for growth!
School Uniform
As we embark on the Summer Term, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of adhering to our school uniform code, which is detailed on our school website. Please ensure that students are wearing school shoes, not trainers, and that they have a water bottle and school tie as part of their uniform. It is also crucial that all belongings are labeled to prevent loss.
Clubs
I am pleased to announce that clubs will be starting again next week. I urge you to refer to the 2-week diary provided in the last Newsletter, which clearly outlines that there will be no clubs in Week 1 of the Summer Term. By planning accordingly, we can ensure a smooth transition back into extracurricular activities. In the last Parent Survey 20+ indicated that you would like a gymnastics club however only 5 people signed up; we have therefore had to cancel this offer as with so few children it is not viable.
Meetings with Teachers and the Headteacher
Quick chats and short discussions are welcome at the end of the day. Please note that staff may have pre-booked meetings after school and may need to leave promptly. If you need additional or a longer meeting then please make an appointment with the class teacher directly or via the school office for the Headteacher. Thank you for understanding.
Calling the office
I would like to address the recent influx of inquiries received by the office, many of which could have been resolved by referring to the information shared in our newsletters or on the website. If you are not receiving our communications via text or email, please inform the office so that we can ensure you are kept informed. Remember, all newsletters, letters and important updates are conveniently available on our school website.
Safeguarding
This week we have been working with the NSPCC and promoting their 'Speak out stay safe' campaign. Children have learnt that the number to Childline is 0800 1111. Please remind your children to keep themselves safe by speaking out to a trusted adult. Please also remind your children not to speak to people they do not know both online and in real life; remind them of the school rule to never speak to people, even people they know, through the school gate/fence. We are reminding them of ways to keep themselves safe in school also.
Perseverance
Reflecting on our previous term's focus on mindset, we now shift our attention to the valuable skill of perseverance. Encouraging a mindset of resilience and determination will serve our students well as they face challenges and strive for excellence in their learning journeys.
Let's work together to make this term a rewarding and successful experience for everyone involved. Thank you for your continued support, and here's to a fantastic Summer Term ahead!

At Herbert Morrison we need attendance to be your priority. Attendance matters!
Please call the office to explain any absence - this is recorded on our system and saves office staff having to call you. Call between 8.30am and 8.50am on every day of absence or email admin@herbertmorrison.lambeth.sch.uk
Good attendance at school is the single most important factor to ensure that young people have the maximum life chances – attendance is strongly linked to educational achievement. Promoting positive school attendance is everyone’s responsibility.
Good attendance is important in order for children to:
Achieve their potential.
Develop a positive attitude towards school and maintain good habits of punctuality and attendance.
See themselves as an important part of the school community and to value and respect school life.
Questions to Consider:
Do you know what your child’s current attendance and/or punctuality figure is?
Do you know what this figure means?
Do you speak to your child about their attendance?
Do you communicate with the office on 0207 720 3439 when your child is not in school?

2 WEEK DIARY
.
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
What is the difference between humble and humility in your opinion? Can you give examples of both?
Starting a conversation can be difficult, especially if you’re worried that your child is having a hard time. It doesn’t matter what topic the conversation starts with – it’s about the opportunity it gives you both to talk about feelings and to provide comfort.
Here are some conversation ideas to start things off...
ENCOURAGING QUESTIONS
The National Online Safety #WakeupWednesday is included on our X ( aka Twitter ) @HerbMorrPriSch.
WhatsApp have lowered their age restriction to 13. This means that NO PRIMARY aged children should be using this app.
WhatsApp is the most widely used messaging platform on the planet, with over two billion users (forecast to become three billion by 2025), across more than 180 countries. The majority of those people (70%) open the app at least once a day – but what exactly are they seeing? Contact from strangers, fake news and convincing scams are all among the service’s well-documented hazards.
According to Ofcom, WhatsApp is used by more than half of 3- to 17-year-olds in the UK (including one in three from the 8–11 bracket), despite its 13+ age restriction. If your child hops onto WhatsApp to stay in touch with friends or family, our updated #WakeUpWednesday guide to the service contains the key details you’ll need to support them in doing it safely.
More information and a weekly update of these low cost suggestions can be found on the Oval Learning Cluster Website - Families Page. Our School works in Partnership with the Oval Learning Cluster.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
