Mrs Peake's - Headteacher Highlights
We find ourselves already into February, marking the midpoint of our academic journey. It's heartening to reflect on the progress our students have made so far.
After the success of our "Writing for Pleasure" Open Morning, Mr. Moorcroft and I have continued to witness the impressive teaching and learning craft in action during writing sessions across every class. I'm delighted you had the opportunity to see it too!
I am particularly impressed with the growth mindset language that is echoed throughout our school. The way our students have embraced the new mindset learning in their thinking and conversations is truly commendable. Their resilience and determination are shaping them into confident learners, ready to tackle challenges head-on.
As we get ready to step into Term 4, our focus shifts to revising and mastering the knowledge gained. Year 6 students will be cordially invited to before-school sessions, providing an extra layer of support to enhance their learning experience.
Furthermore, I am delighted to share that our choir has enthusiastically agreed to bring the joy of music to Saturday Choir sessions. Ms. Arnett and I eagerly anticipate welcoming the choir, starting this Saturday. The power of music and the dedication of our students never ceases to amaze us.
Our students consistently go above and beyond, embodying the spirit of their role models - their parents, carers, and the school staff. Your collective effort contributes immensely to the positive atmosphere within our school.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our shared journey of nurturing and educating our young minds. Remember the more they are here the more they can learn!

We love writing - A pupil led newsletter for you to enjoy!
It would seem however that I have competition and some children have been inspired to make their own school newsletter. Here is the link for you to enjoy. There are several tabs across the top. This Newsletter is completely pupil led and written. These children requested to work together during their lunch breaks and independently produced this great piece of work. We are very proud of the Fantastic Five.

Good attendance at school is the single most important factor to ensure that young people have the maximum life chances – attendance is strongly linked to educational achievement. Promoting positive school attendance is everyone’s responsibility.
Good attendance is important in order for children to:
Achieve their potential.
Develop a positive attitude towards school and maintain good habits of punctuality and attendance.
See themselves as an important part of the school community and to value and respect school life.
Schools recognise that this can only be achieved through a close partnership with parents.
Questions to Consider:
Do you know what your child’s current attendance and/or punctuality figure is?
Do you know what this figure means?
Do you speak to your child about their attendance?
Do you communicate with the office on 0207 720 3439 when your child is not in school?

Tips on having conversations with young people about their online world
The National Online Safety #WakeupWednesday is included on our X ( aka Twitter ) @HerbMorrPriSch.
For many companies who operate in the online space, attention and engagement are the holy grail. Social media sites in particular make deliberate creative choices to keep people scrolling, reading, watching and clicking. This phenomenon is known as ‘persuasive design’ and it’s being employed in the vast majority of the digital world’s most popular destinations.
A study by the charity 5Rights Foundation concluded that “…the brain's response to rewards and punishments can be leveraged through persuasive design to keep children online.” To tie in with Safer Internet Day 2024, our #WakeUpWednesday guide can help to educate youngsters on the effects of persuasive design – and suggests ways to insulate themselves from its influence.

BRIXTON LIBRARY IS BACK
We have another packed programme for February at Lambeth Libraries. Throughout the month we have loads of great authors as well as celebrating LGBTQ+ History month - hopefully something for everyone with fun for all the family.
Brixton Library has is now returned from the Brixton Recreation Centre and is back in its home of 132 years on Windrush Square, in the heart of Brixton. There are lovely new toilets, and one just for children and families using the children’s library. The work however continues! The shaft has been dug out for the new lift and the construction work for the new lift and lobby is underway. More toilets are being installed, meeting rooms opened up in the basement and small meeting Pods fitted upstairs. This will be completed in May and the old end-of-life lift will be removed. While this work is happening the children’s library is slightly smaller than usual, but we will be increasing it to the same size or possibly a little bigger in May. The contractors have worked hard over the holiday period to get the library reopened again and going forward will make every effort for any noisy work to be outside of library opening hours.
