A Child's Self Esteem and Jesus and How They Are Connected is Important

What does the relationship a child have with Jesus, have to do with all of this? Much more than you might imagine. Whether one is religious or not, if a child has been brought up in the western world, or anywhere the teaching of Jesus is taught, there is an influence. Just as an atheist proclaims to believe there is no god, the word itself conjures up the very idea of what it is they are attempting to deny. Morality is a paradigm in which one thinks and assumes a world of good and bad. It is unquestioned. The idea of good and bad, of 'sin' becomes a part of all of the thinking process. No one can escape, as it is one of the original mental structure in which one is raised. That environment consisted of the grown people in that child's life.
Does this mean children should not be taught what is good and bad? Yes. They would be better served to learn what works and what does not work to produce the most amount of happiness for themselves and others. There is no worry as it is unlikely to fully happen. No one can keep from a child the influence the culture has on it. It would be like allowing your goldfish to swim in the water and attempt to make sure it did not get wet.
However, the strength of a child to manage his or her own self worth, the strength of their own worth in the daily living of life will depend on their ability to discern between what works and what does not. What works is to live life happy and joyful, to seek out and reach for these emotions will enable the child to be successful is every aspect of life. In those areas where things become difficult, the child will possess the tools necessary to discover what works.
Parents are the primary influence in the psychological development of a child. Those first five years are critical. Churches, schools and the media are highly influencing factors; they maintain vibrational feelings interpreted by the young child who is still in an emotional developmental stage in life. They are learning to language what they are feeling. A child who misses the opportunity to strengthen and develop his or her sense of absolute perfection and joy, enter life handicapped.
How does Jesus play a part in all of this? Aspects of ancient religious teaching were designed to have a psychological influence beginning with the notion that unless children were cleansed of their original sin, through baptism or some other means they could not know the glory of God. Though I believe there was no evil intent, it was indeed the conclusion of ancient civilizations to interpret a higher power to be one of good and evil. Just as in the beliefs in witches, many have suffered wrongfully. The superstitious idea of a vengeful Almighty Being has long over played its hand. There are a few controlling powers that find it necessary to maintain this fear based thinking, as they are deeply caught up in the original thinking.
In time, the more accurate teachings of Jesus will be highlighted long who is jesus to transform the understanding of the love and importance of raising children in a happy and joyous environment. Doing what works to produce that end is important. The child fortunate enough to live his or her early years grounded in the feelings of high self worth and happiness is provided the necessary pre-requisite to engage successfully in society with a high self esteem. The best thing a child can be taught is that happiness is what they should be seeking in all that they do. Those who have Jesus as part of their upbringing should be reminded that Jesus saw only the wonder and beauty in all people and joy was His gift to the world. Stories of sin and fire and hell are of no inherent value to anyone. Looking for fault in oneself or another or anything for that matter is counter productive to anyone's happiness and true success in life. We live in the best of times as the future we are living into is presenting us with wonderful possibilities. Follow the joy.
