In late 2010 at CES 2011, Cricket unveiled Muve Music, the carriers own music streaming service alongside the $199 Samsung Suede SCH-r710 which was the first phone to support Muve Music and included a 4GB SD Card to store music on.[12] Muve Music was initially included in its own $55 plan but was later expanded to all plans as a $5 add-on before being included in all plans free-of-charge.[13] The music service was deemed by Cricket as a major success and credited with helping drive up at least 100,000 new subscribers in the course of a few months.[14] Muve Music originally required an SD Card with a capacity of at least 4GBs to download music, the ability to do so without an SD Card was introduced in version 4.0 of Muve Music but required an internal storage capacity of at least 4GBs. Muve Music 4.0 was officially unveiled on the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Discover while the Samsung Galaxy Admire would ship with version 3.5 but was upgradeable to version 4.0.[15] At its peak, the service was the biggest music streaming service in regards to paying customers with a customer base of 2.3 million users and was hinted in making appearances in international markets such as in Brazil.[16] The fate of the service was put in doubt after the acquisition of Crickets parent company, Leap Wireless, by AT&T and was rumored to be merged with AT&Ts own Beats Music service or possibly left as-is. AT&T expressed a lack of interest in maintaining the service and discontinued it in May 2014. AT&T made Muve Music inaccessible to any new phone purchased after the merger but allowed legacy handsets bought before the merger to access the service.[17] The service was acquired by Deezer for $100 million and formally shut down on February 7, 2015. Deezer offered all Cricket customers a discounted $6 plan which was made available on January 31, 2015.[18] Cricket offers a variety of phones including most of the latest iPhone and Android models.

In May 2015, Cricket Wireless was sued for selling CDMA phones that would not work after the merger with AT&T. The lawsuit alleged that Cricket knew at the time of the merger with AT&T that any devices sold would soon need to be replaced because AT&T's network did not support CDMA devices and yet continued to do so. The lawsuit further stated that "AT&T and Cricket had decided to discontinue the CDMA network and require Cricket customers to use AT&T's GSM cellular network" yet continued to sell the devices, and due to Cricket's policy of not unlocking cellphones at that time, "the cellphones became useless and worthless."[25] The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff and Cricket was forced to either unlock the locked cell phones, provide 1 month of free service on the 1GB plan for former customers and waive the activation fee, or provide current customers with one extra gigabyte of data for four months.[26]

Cricket has started selling two new Cricket-branded phones: the Cricket Icon 4 and Cricket Innovate E 5G. While Cricket has offered many such white-label phones in the recent years, these additions bring the number of own-brand phones the company now sells to ten, possibly a record number for any US carrier. The Icon 4 is made by Wingtech, while the Innovate E 5G comes via Coosea. Wingtech is new for Cricket, although T-Mobile has relied on Wingtech for its last two generations of REVVL phones. Coosea also makes the Cricket Vision Plus (released in June) and Cricket Debut Smart, which launched just last month. Cricket has also turned to FIH and Tinno for white-label phones in the past. Both new phones are entry-level. The Icon 4 has a 6.5-inch HD+ display, 4,000 mAh battery, 13 megapixel camera, 5 megapixel front camera, and rear fingerprint reader. It has 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage, the smallest amounts supported by modern Android. It sells for $110. The Innovate E adds 5G and bumps the memory to 4 / 64 GB. It also adds NFC and the screen is slightly larger at 6.6 inches. But battery, camera, and other major specs are the same. It's very affordable for a 5G phone at just $160. (Cricket's other self-branded 5G phone, the Dream 5G, was originally $190, although the company has now discounted that phone to $100 for existing customers.)

The top-end S22 Ultra sees the biggest changes as it essentially absorbs Samsung's Note series with an integrated S Pen stylus and a more Note-like shape and design, instead of the Contour Cut design of the other models.

Samsung today officially unveiled its Galaxy S21 series of flagship phones for 2021. All three models sport a distinctive new "Contour Cut Camera" design where the metal frame extends around one corner to surround the rear cameras.

Cricket Wireless only has a handful of smartphones that cost more than $200, with the most recent release being the ZTE Grand X Max+ at $220. Even so, the carrier announced the Samsung Galaxy S6 should be available sometime soon.

Cricket Wireless is a prepaid phone carrier owned by one of the nation's largest wireless providers, AT&T. Unlike T-Mobile with its 55+ phone plans, Cricket Wireless doesn't cater to older adults with discounted senior plans or phones designed for seniors. But that shouldn't stop you from considering Cricket Wireless as your next wireless provider.

I was also pleased to learn during checkout that Cricket offers free next-business-day shipping and no activation fees for SIM cards and phones purchased on the Cricket website. Plus, service taxes and fees are included in the monthly plan cost, so the advertised cost is actually what you're paying. That's transparency you don't always find from wireless companies.

Cricket Wireless has just under 4,500 stores with locations in 49 states (not in Maine) plus Washington, D.C.2 Just know that Cricket stores charge a $25 activation fee. You can also purchase Cricket Wireless SIM cards and phones from Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop and then activate online to avoid the activation fee.

Cricket sells 30 different cell phones on their website, including one that made our list of the best cell phones for seniors. Many of their phones are available for $0 or at a major discount when you purchase one to three months of service. The phone will be locked into Cricket's service for at least six months, though. You also have the option of bringing your own phone.

The Debut Flip is the only flip phone Cricket Wireless sells. We think it's perfect for older adults who want a simple cell phone that'll keep them connected. It has a compact, durable design with an easy-to-see keypad. Don't enjoy typing? You can make calls, send texts, and more with just your voice thanks to Google Assistant. Unlike other phones we've tested, including Lively's Jitterbug Flip2, the Debut Flip works with a data plan. You can surf the web, view your calendar, check email, and add apps and games.

After the seven-day return period, most phones sold by Cricket are covered by a one-year manufacturer's warranty, which is standard in the industry. Cricket-brand phones have a two-year warranty, which we found impressive.

Overall, this plan is our pick for older adults who plan to use their phones a lot, whether they're at home without Wi-Fi or frequently on the road. One thing worth noting is that, although this plan comes with unlimited high-speed data, Cricket does temporarily reduce data speeds if the network gets busy.
