Background:
In her early years before the fame, Whitney frequently performed with her mother, Cissy Houston, at co-headlining concerts mainly throughout New York and New Jersey in the early 1980s. These appearances received rave reviews from the press and eventually led to her being discovered by Clive Davis. After seeing her perform at one of these shows, he signed her to Arista Records. Shortly after her final co-headlining appearance in early January, Whitney made her solo debut at Sweetwater’s Club a month later, with her debut album finally releasing at the same time.
