Lauren searches the wooded area for clues as to the whereabouts of Kate but only finds more scribbled drawings (eight in total). As she ventures deeper into the park, she encounters a tall, faceless figure called the Slender Man, who can only be seen through her video camera. After all eight pages are collected, Lauren runs from the entity, slipping down an embankment, hitting her head and passing out.

Lauren powers and uses the lift to escape the mine. She continues up the mountainside towards a radio tower and along the way, she can find a teddy bear. Interacting with it starts an optional level where Charlie is playing on the beach with his parents at a picnic out of reach. After being led away by collecting a trail of toys that lead him into the woods, he is caught by the Slender Man.

Lauren reaches a storage outpost with a television and two tapes. One shows Kate (who has a video camera of her own) hurriedly scribbling upon papers before discovering that the Slender Man is trying to get in. She starts to close every door and window in the house, but the entity manages to get inside. Kate then runs back to her room where the Slender Man suddenly appears and she proceeds to jump out of the bedroom window before the tape abruptly ends.

The other tape shows Carl-Ross (CR for short), a friend of Kate, investigating a farm where he collects evidence into the story of Charles Matheson. Like Lauren and Kate, he also has a video camera. He uses gas canisters to power a generator, and looks for a key to unlock a gate to the Matheson family chapel. While there, he discovers that the Matheson family were responsible for accidentally bringing the Slender Man to Oakside. Charlie, now a deformed and zombie-like follower of the Slender Man, pursues him and eventually chases him away.

Continuing onward to the radio tower, Lauren finds herself emerging from a mine into a forest fire, where the Slender Man aggressively pursues her. Lauren escapes from the entity after getting inside the radio tower building and looks for a key to unlock a door. Her flashlight's batteries die as she goes through the door, only to find she has reached a dead end, containing the burnt corpse of CR. She finds a camera with the recording of two panicked people, Kate and CR. Shortly after listening, the corridor goes dark, Charlie runs towards Lauren and she blacks out.

In October 2023, Blue Isle Studios announced a Halloween-themed event for the game, where the player must collect 30 pumpkins to unlock a special costume for Slender Man. In addition, they announced a cross-platform mod kit allowing users to create their own mods and chapters, a multiplayer mode, and three downloadable content chapters.

Despite the decline in popular interest in Slender Man, commercial adaptations of the character continued.[42][43] In 2015, the film adaptation of Marble Hornets, titled Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story, was released on VOD, where the character was portrayed by Doug Jones.[54] In 2016, Sony Pictures subsidiary Screen Gems partnered with Mythology Entertainment to bring a Slender Man film into theatres, with the title character portrayed by Javier Botet.[55]

Jeff Tolbert also accepts the Slender Man as folkloric and suggests it represents a process he calls "reverse ostension". Ostension in folkloristics is the process of acting out a folk narrative. According to Tolbert, the Slender Man does the opposite by creating a set of folklore-like narratives where none existed before. It is an iconic figure produced through a collective effort and deliberately modeled after an existing and familiar folklore genre. According to Tolbert, this represents two processes in one: it involves the creation of new objects and new disconnected examples of experience, and it involves the combination of these elements into a body of "traditional" narratives, modeled on existing folklore (but not wholly indebted to any specific tradition).[61]

After Geyser stabbed Leutner with the knife, she and Weier left Leutner alone in the woods. Injured and bleeding, Leutner did what many couldn't believe she had the strength to do: She pulled herself out of the woods and into the open where someone could find her.

Lauren walks to the end of the hall where the charred corpse of a man, presumed to be CR, is lying next to a video camera. As Lauren plays the audio on the camera, she hears CR trying to convince Kate to do something, most likely commit suicide with him, as evidenced by note No. 13 and the fridge note from 'Prologue'. Kate screams that she can't, and runs away. CR then says sorry to someone, and starts screaming. After a while, a woman, presumably Kate, starts laughing. The audio ends suddenly. The fire near the door where Lauren entered is blown out, and the door can be heard opening and footsteps are heard. The camera, near dead, begins to flash of incoherent shapes and loud noises while the decaying figure is Charles Matheson Jr. closes in on Lauren.

A secret level is playable by collecting a missing child poster 3 times during the course of the game, the name of the child being Charles Matheson Jr. The secret level is a series of distorted rooms in which Lauren is trying to go to another room but instead gets teleported to another room. When Lauren enters a room where the door is locked, she will eventually get captured by the Slender Man and a voice will call out and say, "he likes you" and wants to, "play with you".

You are then taken back to the main menu, if the player attempts to continue by checking the option stage selection, all the stages are replaced with the missing child poster you have seen before. You are in front of the house where there are a series of distortion all around the environment and the graphics are slightly low. In this stage you simply wander around the house, where at some point, the screen will cut to black and you are "found".

Choosing "Start Game" leads the player to a scene where Lauren seems to be looking up at the sky. The screen cuts to black once again and the missing child poster combined with Slender Man appears like it did before at the end of the secret level. If the player exits the game, however, the five stages will return back to normal and will no longer have the missing child poster.

This brings us to the game play; lets just say it is rather light. You have a video camera which serves as your H.U.D.. Everything you do is being recorded as you look through the camcorder. Your only other tool is a flashlight (or torch to my friends elsewhere). It can be used to temporarily stun enemies, but your real friend in this game is to keep moving. As you search for different objectives or letters, you are being chased by the Slender Man or other apparitions. As he gets closer your camera grows with static and harsh tones scream all around you. Make eye contact for long at all and you will fail.

One large area where Slender: The Arrival really shines is when it comes to the sound department. Every effect is perfect, from the sounds of foot fall in the brush behind you or as the screech of static swells, this game exudes fear. If you play this with headphones and in a dark room, you will be inviting some palpitations. Sound aside, graphically speaking, Slender is a pretty game. Everything runs smoother than the original and the textures are very crisp. The blackness of night is chilling and it helps add the sense of urgency and tension that pervades the entire experience.

In basic terms, Slender Man is an epistolary novel comprised of journal entries, emails, text messages, voice transcripts, and other forms of documentation surrounding the life of high school student Matt Barker, who is on a mission to discover the truth of what happened to his friend and classmate Lauren Bailey. The popular teen girl from Riley, an elite New York City high school, went out one night and never returned. Within hours, rumors were flying all over Riley speculating on her whereabouts, though secretly, Matt knows Lauren well enough to know the majority of them have no basis in fact. While the two teens never ran in the same circles at school, they have maintained a close friendship that neither of them advertised publicly, keeping most their correspondence through texts. Lauren had an obsession with dark subjects that, as far as Matt knew, he was the only one she ever shared with, sending with him gruesome stories and pictures that she found online that she thought were funny or interesting.

Haha, I bet googling that took you down quite a rabbit hole. I remember finding out when that news story broke about the real life stabbing of a girl by two of her classmates because of the slender man myth. Really messed up stuff.

With Leutner on the ground, Geyser stabbed her 19 times before she and Weier left Leutner for dead. Leutner said she eventually got up, grabbed trees for support, and made her way to a nearby road where a bicyclist found her and called for help.

Leutner recalled in a 2019 interview with ABC News how, before the stabbing, Weier told her to lay down on the ground and cover herself with sticks and leaves, as part of what Leutner believed to be a game of hide-and-seek. After the stabbing, Leutner said she eventually got up, grabbed trees for support, and made her way to a road where a bicyclist found her and called for help. 0852c4b9a8
