Feed and Grow: Fish is an underwater simulator and a survival game. Since ocean life is very harsh, all fish must survive by feeding on other sea creatures. Depending on your size, you can hunt and feed on shrimps or have a hearty meal with a piranha. As you continue to feed, you unlock different levels and go from being a small fish to a huge one - think, shark!

The first level of the game begins with you as a Raptor or Bibos. You start exploring the fish simulation before becoming truly hungry. Once that happens, you have to feed, and you can do that easily by biting into small fish. Irrespective of how you fare, you get to explore aquatic life from the eyes of a fish.

Mike chose to grow sandworms because research suggested they could survive solely on fish waste. The worms for his experiment were harvested in Maine, where there is a lucrative but declining sandworm fishery.

Both sandworms and sea beans can grow by using waste and nutrients from fish farming. While scavenging sandworms eat the solid waste, sea beans use waste in the form of nutrients dissolved in seawater.

If you are looking for the very best fish food to feed your aquarium animals, most veteran fishkeepers will agree there is nothing that tops live foods. This premium food is the closest thing to what fish eat in nature and has numerous benefits. The movement of the food entices the fish to eat, which is especially useful if they are underweight or growing and need to consume more nutrients than usual. Plus, hunting provides both physical and mental enrichment for your aquarium animals and allows you to see interesting behaviors that might not appear when feeding flakes. Finally, live foods are one of the fastest ways to condition your fish for breeding. Learn about these 10 popular live foods and how to culture some of them in your own home.

Typically, egg-scattering fish such as tetras, rainbowfish, and killifish produce teeny-tiny fry that are too small to eat regular fry food. Vinegar eels are harmless, white roundworms that are very easy to culture and are perfect for feeding babies until they are big enough to eat baby brine shrimp. Simply fill a wine or other long-necked bottle with 50% apple cider vinegar, 50% dechlorinated water, and a few slices of apple. Once the vinegar eels have reproduced enough, you can harvest them by adding some filter floss and dechlorinated water into the neck of the bottle so that the vinegar eels swim out of the vinegar into the fresh water. Then use a pipette to remove some of the vinegar eels and feed them to your fish fry. Read our step-by-step instructions to make your own vinegar eel cultures.

We personally do not sell feeder fish at Aquarium Co-Op because they have a higher likelihood of spreading disease to your aquarium and most people do not bother quarantining feeder fish. Plus, goldfish and minnows contain high levels of thiaminase and, when consumed in large amounts, can prevent your predator fish from getting enough thiamin (or vitamin B1) and cause all sorts of health issues. To avoid nutrient deficiencies, the key is to provide a variety in diet and not just feed one type of food all the time.

Taiyo grow is a highly nutritious feed accelerating the growth rate of Tropical fish and Gold fish. Contains natural ingredients to increase appetite. Spirulina added for better colour development, enhance lustrous skin and keep the fish in good body shape. This feed is produced by high technology to prevent water contamination.

1. In Section 2.0 of this manual, you have learned that plants are able, through photosynthesis, to utilize sunlight and simple nutrients to produce new organic material. On the contrary, animals, including fish, cannot. Thus to survive, grow and reproduce, fish need to feed on organic materials such as plants, other animals, or prepared feeds containing plant and/or animal material. It is therefore most important for you to ensure that your fish get the food they require, both in quality and in quantity.

4. Supplementary feeds are feeds regularly distributed to the fish in the pond. They usually consist of cheap materials locally available such as terrestrial plants, kitchen wastes or agricultural by-products.

5. Complete feeds may also be regularly distributed. They are made from a mixture of carefully selected ingredients to provide all the nutrients necessary for the fish to grow well. They must be made in a form which the fish find easy to eat and digest. These feeds are quite difficult to make on the farm and are usually quite expensive to buy.

6. The system of production can be defined according to the type of food given to the fish:  extensive: fish production depends entirely on natural food; semi-intensive: fish production depends on both natural food and supplementary feed; more fish may be reared in the pond; intensive: fish production depends entirely on complete feed, and the stocking rate no longer depends on food availability but on other factors such as water quality.  7. In the following sections, you will learn more about natural food (Section 10.1) and supplementary feeds (Sections 10.2 to 10.6). If you are interested in complete feeds, you should read another FAO manual entitled Feed and feeding of fish and shrimp: a manual on the preparation and presentation of compound feeds for shrimp and fish in aquaculture, by M.B. New (Rome, FAO, ADCP Report 87/26, 275 pp., 1987). e24fc04721
