All I know about train travel in Europe I learned from seat61.com and the kind folks here on TA. We have used trains (and ferries) extensively and have almost always been able to get inexpensive seats printed on our home computer. If you book early, 90 days in advance of travel in most cases, we have booked first class tickets that are cheaper than second class tickets booked the day of travel. We use first class on trips longer than 4-5 hours, otherwise we always get second class fares. Play around with the various booking sites using dates within 90 days of travel just to learn the nuances of each site. Then you will be ready to book your tickets and have a good idea of costs, ticket classes, and how to pick the seats you want so you won't have to sit facing backwards for an entire journey. It's actually very straightforward once you get a little practice. You won't have any trouble getting what you want at the best price.
You can buy tickets at St Pancras International, even on the day of travel - however last-minute tickets are much more expensive than those booked well ahead of time. Eurostar fares go on sale 120 days before travel and work like air fares - the cheapest tickets sell out first. Of course the cheapest fares are also non-flexible and non-refundable, so bear that in mind.
As far as i saw, the best way is to use the Eurostar to get to Bruxelles, and from there using the ICE (booking from bahn.de) for the rest of the journey, I guess it's will be cheaper to order those tickets ahead of time as well.

Eurail Passes, for example, offer customers a choice between an 85% refund or an exchange for a different Eurail Pass. Trenitalia offers fares with up to a 60% discount for high-speed train tickets purchased in advance on a no-refund basis.
Additionally, as railways have had to deal with the rise of budget airlines, they have changed their pricing model to more closely imitate airlines. Now they now tend to offer cheap early-bird prices and expensive last-minute fares so depending on when you book you may get a better deal by booking a single ticket than using a Eurail pass.
Go to www.eurostar.com. It's the official website for booking the train to and from Paris/London (Brussels, Calais and Lille). You can book 3 months in advance and print your ticket yourself. The earlier you book, the cheaper the fares. Staying over on a Saturday night can reduce fares.
Most expensive fares. Check out the price of two round trip tickets, schedule the unused portion for months away. Use half of each ticket for your trip and throw out the other half - it can be cheaper than a single round trip ticket.
The Euostar website is easy to operate; type in your destination, departure and arrival dates, number of people, class you would like to travel and approximate time. You will find several options and prices based on the hours before and after so you can choose the cheapest fare. There are other sites such as Euro Rail, but they are more expensive than eurostar.
Eurail Passes are famous as a way to save money while exploring Europe, but they are also confusing and often misunderstood. They are still an amazing money-saving tool for certain types of travelers, and not a wise idea for most others. Before Europe introduced dynamic rail pricing (like airfares, where the price varies depending on when you buy it), a Eurail Pass was an easy way to save money since all tickets had fixed prices that were generally fairly expensive. These days most travelers can save far more money just by buying their train tickets at least a few weeks in advance.
That said, Eurail Passes are still great for longer trips and especially for people who like to make plans as they go. Dynamic rail pricing made advanced tickets much cheaper, but it also made last-minute tickets MUCH more expensive. Below we will discuss Eurail Passes and whether they are a good idea for your trip or not.
Brussels in particular is one I recommend a short stop in because the small historic center around what they called the Grand Place is amazing and gorgeous, while the rest of the city is rather boring by European standards. With a Eurail Pass you can jump off the train in Brussels and explore the city center for a few hours (luggage storage is cheap and easy) and maybe have lunch, and then hop on a later train to complete your journey to Amsterdam. There are opportunities like this on many if not most trips between larger cities, and if you buy the point-to-point tickets you have to stay on the train you booked.
The cheapest way to get around Europe by rail is to buy all train tickets online at least a couple months in advance. The fares are low, but they are non-refundable and non-changeable. See how far in advance you should buy train tickets to get those attractive fares.
So consider your planned itinerary. If more than half of it is in the Mediterranean countries then look into a Regional Pass or just buy tickets as you go, because they tend to be pretty cheap. But if you are planning on spending at least half your time in Paris and places to the north of it, then a Eurail Pass is probably a money saver because those tickets are expensive.
You may find that tickets for weekdays or Saturday afternoons are less expensive than trains timed for weekend getaways. Eurostar occasionally offers deals and sales. Check www.eurostar.com or subscribe to Eurostar's email newsletter to stay in the know.
