On July 2, 1963 (seven years after the death of H. B. Reese), when the sales of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were equivalent to $243 million, his sons Robert, John, Ed, Ralph, Harry and Charles Richard Reese, merged the H. B. Reese Candy Company with The Hershey Company in a tax free stock-for-stock merger. In 2023 after 60 years of stock splits,[17] the Reese brothers' original 666,316 shares of Hershey common stock represent 16 million Hershey shares valued at over $4.0 billion that pay annual cash dividends of $66.3 million.[18][19] At the time of its 1963 merger, the H. B. Reese Candy Company was celebrating its 40th Anniversary and had just added 200,000 square feet of new state-of-the-art manufacturing capacity to its 925 Reese Avenue plant in Hershey.[8] In 1969, only six years after the Reese/Hershey merger, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups became the best-selling product of The Hershey Company.[9]
REESE'S peanut butter cups were created by Harry Burnett (H.B.) Reese in 1928. H.B. Reese was a former employee of the Hershey Chocolate Company when he invented REESE'S peanut butter chocolate candy.
During the seasons when retailers offer holiday-themed candies, Reese's Peanut Butter candies are available in various shapes that still offer the standard confection theme of the traditional Reese's cup (peanut butter contained in a chocolate shell). They are sold in a 6-pack packaging configuration but are usually available individually. Although exterior packaging is altered to reflect the theme of the representative holiday, the actual holiday itself is never presented.[26]
The early years of the Depression were a financial struggle. During the summer months when it was too hot to make candy, H.B. Reese operated a truck farm and hired workers to pick green beans and other vegetables. Reese put his canning experience to use and set up a canning business to process the produce grown at area farms.

H.B. Reese, a Pennsylvania farmer, fell right into fate's hands when he answered a job posting to work at a dairy farm owned by none other than Milton Hershey. Reese eventually took up work at Hershey's candy manufacturing factory, before branching out to found his own with the invention of the Reese's peanut butter cup in 1928.
There is not much smell given off from the treat at a distance, although up close a chocolate and peanut butter smell can be picked up. The smell of this candy is light and sweet. The cup is solid yet somewhat soft when held in hand, and quick to melt
I am 66 years old.. I have been eating Reeses since I was either 4 or 5 years of age.. This is now and always has been my favorite candy after all these years.. I also love to eat Reeses Sticks..especially during the summer when I have had them in the freezer..I also like Byers Chocolate Reeses Ice Cream.. My only regret, I was not able to get a Reeses pie during Thanksgiving.. Reeses Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups are the best.. I eat them every week.. except in March 2017, while I was hospitalized, with 200 fractures to left side of my face liked a cracked egg and 8 broke ribs.. I should have died.. GOD had other plans for me.. Maybe one day..Reeses will give me a years supply from winning some type of contest.
Thank you so much for your care for such an awesome candy..
May GOD continue to you and Reeses and Hersheys.. Yall are Best!!
Don't you just love when dreams you didn't even know you had come true? Just in time for Thanksgiving, Hershey announced the launch of the Reese's 9-Inch Cup Pie, which is exactly what you think it is: a pie-size Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Retailing for $44.99, the pie weighs a whopping 3.25 pounds and is exclusively composed of chocolate and peanut butter, just like your average Reese's Cup. I thought my love language was physical touch, but this news confirms it is, in fact, a jumbo Reese's Cup the size of my head.
I've never agreed with a caption more in my life than when this one suggested a straight shot of the stuff. The photo of the whipped cream cans shows an orange-capped Reese's can with the same hue of the iconic Reese's packaging, and it's labeled as "Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Dairy Whipped Topping." I'll admit that's a mouthful for what I will probably call "Reese's Whipped Cream," but the picture on the can of the perfectly swirled caramel-hued topping is exactly what I want to put on top of everything I eat for the rest of time.
Yes, you read that right. World War II actually helped Reese's Peanut Butter Cups become the world-renowned candy they are today. Both sugar and chocolate were rationed during the war, which made it tough for candy companies to keep up with the demand for sweets. Luckily for Reese's, peanut butter was never rationed, which lead Reese to use automated production when making his peanut butter cups. Reese's decided to scrap the rest of their candy, and devote all their efforts towards producing peanut butter cups. The rest is history.
The Hershey Co. has taken America's Halloween candy market by storm in recent years, accounting for almost half of all customer expenditure on regular-size chocolate candies. Reese's is America's best-selling brand when it comes to snack-sized candies. From California to the New York Island, trick-or-treaters are always thrilled to receive Reese's on Halloween.
Reese's has had its own holiday since 2010, when a Facebook petition to declare May 18th "I love Reese's Day" got over 40,000 signatures. Be sure to celebrate your favorite peanut butter treat on May 18th. What could be better than celebrating Reese's on a beautiful Spring day?
"The chocolate itself can provide antioxidants that are great for decreasing inflammation throughout the body," Yacobucci said. "The problem with chocolate comes when we add a lot of additional ingredients to that chocolate to make it into milk chocolate or white chocolate."
