What do you get out of volunteering?

Ask a volunteer why they volunteer and you’ll get a range of answers. Some will say they enjoy giving back or they like meeting people at social events. But what they don’t realize is that by being a volunteer you are learning powerful skills that you can transfer to future employment. For example, the Social Director may just be planning a party but what she may not realize is that she is learning organizational skills, managerial skills, creativity skills and so much more. The Treasurer is learning accounting skills, the President is learning leadership skills and the list goes on.

A Community League board is a great way for a Stay-at-Home Mom to get some work experience before she goes back to the workforce. A student may want to learn more about accounting or event planning before they enter that field. Or, they may want to get volunteer experience while they are in school. Future employers encourage volunteerism. Finally, someone who may be in between jobs may want to donate their time to fill the gap in their resume.

Whatever your reason for volunteering just remember that valuable skills will result from it.

Needed: WMCL Soccer Director

Outdoor soccer season will be starting soon. West Meadowlark will not be taking any registrations this year. There will not be a listing to select West Meadowlark online. You will need to pick last year’s team or another community league in order to register. West Meadowlark will not be at the soccer registration night. You will have to pay another league for your child to play soccer. It has been 4 years without a soccer director and even longer without a team at West Meadowlark.

WMCL would really like to support a team and keep our soccer program going but it’s been too long without support from the community. If soccer is important to your family, please contact westmeadowlark@gmail.com and we can get you started as our Soccer Director and bring back soccer back!

Soccer coaches

No Volunteer Coaches = No teams

Emsawest is looking for coaches. Last year, they had too many players and not enough coaches. In order to accommodate all the players, teams were at their maximum. Outdoor soccer is a great way for your child to play a sport and learn to be on a team, please keep soccer alive by volunteering your time.

Skills-Based volunteers

Sometimes hobbies can turn into volunteering. For example, if your hobby is photography, we would love to have a photographer at our social events. You get a chance to take photos and the league is able to capture the joy and excitement of our members at our events.

If you have a special skill that you would like to share with the league or you are interested in volunteering, email us at westmeadowlark@gmail.com.
