West Meadowlark

CoMMUNITY LEAGUE

welcome to wmcl

West Meadowlark Park is a residential neighbourhood in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The area was originally part of the Town of Jasper Place and became a part of Edmonton when Jasper Place amalgamated with the City of Edmonton in 1964. The neighbourhood is bounded on the west by 170 Street, on the east by 163 Street, on the south by 87 Avenue and on the north by 95 Avenue.

The West Meadowlark Community League (WMCL) was incorporated in 1968 and the community hall was built in 1969. WMCL has a fully accessible playground footprint (no sand), basketball standards, shaded picnic structure, spray park and maintains a hockey rink and social skating rink in the winter. We started a community garden in 2017 and are celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2018.

The community has 2 elementary schools (Annunciation Catholic School and Afton School of the Arts) and 2 high schools (St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School and Jasper Place Composite High School). Residents of West Meadowlark Park can access West Edmonton Mall and the Misericordia Hospital is within our boundaries. West Meadowlark Park is also home to a wonderful array of recreation and sports facilities. City run facilities in our neighbourhood include the Johnny Bright Sports Park, the Jasper Place Leisure Centre (currently closed for renovations until 2019), the St. Francis Xavier Sports Centre and the Bill Hunter Arena.

Volunteers are always needed. Help your community, help yourself! Get involved!

Message from the president - Nov. 2018

Hello Everyone,

Thanks to all that worked and participated in the Halloween Party. Everyone had an awesome time. Thanks to Maureen for putting together the Escape Room. It was lots of fun. Please join us at our first annual Artisan Craft Fair. Start your Christmas shopping early and support local artisans and residents. There are numerous Remembrance Day ceremonies in Edmonton. Let’s take a few moments to remember our Veterans that fought for our country. For more information, go to www.edmonton.ca/attractions_events/city_hall/ remembrance-day-service.aspx Hope to see all of you at the Breakfast with Santa Christmas Party on Dec. 1. Kids, make sure you bring some money to buy gifts for your loved ones in the Secret Store. Parents, this is a great opportunity to take free photos with Santa.

Your president, Greg Jober
