Keyser Phase(1450) Unit- Planview is oriented with North 'up', Photo of the same unit is South 'up'.
The Keyser Phase village palisade was located in the south end of the unit, about 3 meters behind
a Keyser phase house,found in 2006.
Towson Univ. Students provided some exceptional new talent during the Field Session
In the north end of the unit was a charred grass mat, fire reddened soil and a bone needle....
Post #9 had an Elk scapula embedded in the postmold.
Susquehannock(1610's) post trench-
Students working in the unit excavated the trench and defined 9 posts within the fill.
............likely, used to weave the mat.
The scapula is broken and was likely used as a hoe to dig the trench. After it was broken, apparently it was jammed alongside the newly installed post,to tighten it.
Large rectangular features were found in a Susquehannock(1600's) unit,
possibly indicating a floor area under each side of a Susquehannock longhouse. Much more research into this and adjacent units is needed to determine the true nature of the stains.
