The West Hartford Special Education Parent Teacher Organization (WH SEPTO) is a district-wide PTO dedicated to supporting and advocating for students with disabilities and higher support needs, their families and caregivers, and the educators who serve them throughout West Hartford Public Schools.

Our mission is to educate, advocate, and strengthen community connections for families of students from Pre-K through the Post-Secondary Program.

WH SEPTO hosts regular PTO meetings that bring together parents and caregivers, educators, and District leadership to share information, discuss needs, and collaborate on ways to enhance educational opportunities for all students, with a particular focus on children with disabilities and those who may need additional support.

All families are welcome. Participation is not limited to families whose children have an IEP, 504 Plan, or formal diagnosis. We welcome families navigating a wide range of learning, developmental, social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.

Beyond our PTO meetings, WH SEPTO hosts informal gatherings and community events where families can connect with one another and with local organizations, find resources and support, build relationships, and work together toward a more inclusive community in West Hartford and across Connecticut.

One of the biggest challenges families navigating special education face is learning what you don’t know. The world of special education can feel overwhelming. There are unfamiliar terms, services, programs, rights, processes, and opportunities and it is difficult to know what questions to ask, or where to turn, when you’re just getting started. Leave the heavy lifting to WH SEPTO!

You don’t have to know everything. You just need a place to start.
