Evolutionary Vertebrate Morphology
The lecture provides an overview about the comparative anatomy of all major vertebrate groups (fishes, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals). We focus on 10 prominent features of vertebrate anatomy (muscles, eyes, skin, etc.), discuss major transitions in evolution, and study variation in form and function. The practical contains the observation of a variety of animal organ preparations and microscopy to learn about fundamental aspects of vertebrate morphology. The zoological, paleontological, and embryonic collections of Tübingen University will be consulted to gain first-hand observations.

Vertebrate Paleontology
The lecture provides an overview about the major extinct and living vertebrate groups (fishes, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals). We focus on the cranial and postcranial skeleton and discuss evolutionary transitions in relation to biomechanical foundations. We make great use of the Tübingen Paleontological Collection and study fossil first hand.

Invertebrate Fossils
We take part in the teaching of invertebrate fossil anatomy by teaching mollusks (i.e., Gastropoda, Bivalvia). In addition to lectures, we make a practical in which students draw and determine fossils and their key characters.

The University of Tübingen provided us a price (OER) for teaching "embryology & paleontology" and made this video (German). Enjoy!

Together with Marcelo R. Sánchez-Villagra, I developed a teaching tool on comparative embrology. Available in English and German:
With a team of colleagues we also developed a teaching tool on the embrology of domesticated animals. Available in English and German:
In 2020 and 2021 Ingmar Werneburg and his colleagues from the Museum Uni Tübingen performed a 2-semester praxis seminar (12 SWS), which resulted in an impressive (527 pp.) book on the history and the major objects of our Paleontological collection in Tübingen. Several students contributed with own text!
