• Refunds:

  • Full refund before closing date except $35 administrative fee and any online processing fees.

  • No refunds of any type will be made if notice of cancellation is received later than two weeks before the date of the show.

• Returned Payments:

  • There will be a $50.00 penalty charged by management for any entry payments returned by the bank.

Stabling Fees

We have 16 outdoor steel noble pens available.  The pens are located in a lovely shaded area and competitors can camp nearby within view. Stall allocation priority is given to offline competitors.  For all others, stalls are available on a first come first served basis.

Stabling 

We have 16 Seel Noble outdoor stalls available for use.  All located in the shade and in a quiet corner of the equestrian park.  Stalls can be reserved for off Island competitors, else will be available on a first come first served basis.  Plan to bring your own bedding and strip your stall completely before you leave.

Camping at Paradise Ridge Equestrian Park

Nestled in the center of Vashon Island, Paradise Ridge is a sprawling 43-acre facility built specifically for equestrian sport. Surrounded by quiet, second-growth woodlands, the park offers a true escape from the mainland hustle.

• Camp With Your Horse: Skip the early morning ferry stress! We offer overnight stabling and on-site dry camping for off-island competitors. You can park your rig, relax, and wake up right next to your horse in a peaceful, wooded setting.  

• Purpose-Built Infrastructure: The central hub features dedicated show rings, warm-up arenas, two judge’s booths, and outdoor stalls.

• Room to Ride: A perimeter Foster cross-country jumping course offers plenty of shaded space and trails to hack out and stretch your horse's legs between phases.

• A Horse-First Environment: To keep the trails safe and relaxed for our equine athletes, bicycles are strictly prohibited off the pavement.

• Show Office Hours: Open one hour prior to the first ride of each day and will close 30 minutes after the last class of the day.

• Entries: Observe Opening and Closing dates published on each show title page. Entries received before the opening date may be returned. The show can be filled prior to the “Closing Date”.

• Waitlist Entries: Entries received after the classes are filled will be notified and, if desired, put on a waiting list.

• Post Entries: Management reserves the right to accept post entries if space allows in the case of cancellation. Post entry fee: $25.00. 

• Minor Exhibitors (Under 18): No entry by a Minor will be accepted unless it is signed by a parent or guardian.

• USAWE: Rules are in accordance with United States Rules for Working Equitation available on https://usawe.org/rules/

• USAWE Membership: Participants must be members of USAWE (Except schooling rides) https://usawe.org/become-amember/

• Horse Requirements. All horses must be recorded with USAWE. A one-time fee of $30 per horse includes lifetime performance tracking. The form is completed online at https://usawe.org/competitors/record-your-horse/

• Tests: All Tests are the current USAWE tests. Show conducted according to USAWE rules.

• Schedule: Riders with multiple horses entered in different classes will be scheduled with the goal to allow 45 minutes between rides. Please provide your own support to accommodate that timeframe. Riders riding multiple horses in the same class may have less than 45 minutes between rides, please plan accordingly.

• Awards: Ribbons 1st through 5th place. Prize to first place and highpoint winners. Unclaimed tests/ribbons or music will be held at the show office for 2 days after the show. If you cannot stay for results after your ride, please designate someone to pick them up. Unclaimed materials will not be mailed.

• Vaccination: Vaccination records must be submitted with your entry . Non-compliant entries will be denied entry and permission to unload and will not be allowed to mingle with other horses or compete. No refunds will be given if the right to compete is denied because the Vaccination Record is missing or incomplete. Whether the horse is vaccinated by a veterinarian, or by an owner or agent, documentation is required. Upload or email the appropriate, completed and signed documents prior to the Wednesday before the competition arrival begins.

• Combinations/Cancellation of Classes: Show management reserves the right to combine or cancel classes where fewer than three (3) horses are entered or limit the size of classes as necessary. Show management also reserves the right to change the order of the classes as they are listed in the Prize list. Competitors in changed classes will be notified. Classes canceled because of weather may be rescheduled or remain canceled. NO REFUNDS. Show management reserves the right to substitute judges if necessitated by illness or other unforeseen event which makes it impossible for the advertised judge to be present at the show. The classes may not be scheduled in the order they are listed.

• Ride Times: Riding schedule will be e-mailed to each RIDER by the Wednesday before the show with the final ride times posted on this website no later than noon prior to the day of the show. If ride times are not received, it is the responsibility of the rider to contact Show Management. It is the responsibility of the rider to inform the management of any time conflicts as soon as possible after receiving the schedule.

• No shows (or scratches): All “No Shows” that have not checked in with the show office a minimum of 45 minutes prior to their first ride and picked up their exhibitor numbers will be considered a “scratch”. There are no refunds for scratched entries or classes. Scratches by competitors on the show grounds are official ONLY when made to the Show Secretary. Scratches made to warm-up or ring stewards are not official and may be considered NO SHOWS. If the competitor cannot come to the show office to scratch in person, they may send a representative.

• Release of Responsibility: USAWE, Vashon Maury Island Horse Association, Show Officials, Show Management, and/or employees and volunteers will not be responsible for any accident and/or loss that may occur to any exhibitor or his agent, horse, and/or equipment on premises including stabling. Washington State Equine Limitation of Liability Act RCW4.24 applies to all Equestrians Institute shows, at any facility used. Horses, by their inherent nature, present a risk of injury, harm or death. Riders represent that they are qualified to participate at the level entered. Each exhibitor is responsible for any injury or harm, that may be occasioned to any person, whomsoever, by any horse owned or exhibited by said exhibitor, and shall hold harmless and indemnify any agencies or persons listed above, against all claims or demands, of any nature or kind, that may grow out of any injury occasioned by any horses owned or exhibited by them, or arise from the negligence of the person in charge of such horse. All owners and competitors are personally responsible for damage to third parties caused by themselves, their employees, their agents or their horses. All horses exhibited at these shows participate entirely at the owner’s or rider’s risk.

• Special Release: By signing the entry agreement, the signor further agrees to: “release and indemnify and hold harmless USAWE, Vashon Maury Island Horse Association, Show Officials, Show Management, and/or employees and volunteers from and against any and all loss, liability or damage arising from or because of, or in connection with, participation in this competition or related activities. The signor also hereby agrees to release, indemnify, and hold harmless the show management, show committee and members, officers, directors, agents, and volunteers from and against any and all loss, liability, or damage arising from or because of, or in connection with, participation in this competition or related activities.”

• Media Release: All show entrants grant Working Equitation Island Style the absolute and irrevocable right and permission, in respect of the photographs and/or video taken of them alone or with others, to use, re-use, publish, and re-publish the same in whole or in part, individually or in conjunction with other photographs or video, and in conjunction with any printed matter, or electronic matter, in any and all media now or hereafter known, and for any purpose whatsoever. Show entrants release and discharge the WEIS from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of the photographs or video, including without limitation any and all claims for libel or invasion of privacy.

• Decisions: All judges’ decisions are final. If a judge or management decides that an animal is not fit to show, the decision will be final.

• Disputes: Any disputes or problems during the show should be brought to the attention of the show manager.

• Disqualification: Grounds for disqualification and expulsion without a refund:

  • unsportsmanlike conduct

  • use of severe bits or training devices

  • unruly or out-of-control horses

  • mistreatment of any horse or student as determined by management or judges

  • exhibiting a horse that is exhausted, injured, or lame

• No Drones for any reason.

Equine Vaccination Requirements

Horses, more than 7 months of age, must be accompanied by documentation of Equine Influenza Virus and Equine Herpes Virus (Rhinopneumonitis) vaccinations within six months prior to entering the show grounds. 

• All horses are required to provide proof of vaccinations no later than 5:00pm on the Wednesday before the show. If we do not receive your vaccination records, you will not be allowed on the grounds, and we will not refund your entry or any associated fees.

• Negative EIA/Coggins within 12mo is required for all out of state entries.

• Health Certificates are required for all out-of-state competitors.

• In the case of a horse that is unable to receive either of the vaccinations due to a history of adverse reactions, the exhibitor, upon request by Competition Management, must provide a letter from the veterinarian on official letterhead stating that the horse in question cannot be vaccinated due to medical concerns and a log of temperatures taken twice daily for the seven days prior to entering the competition grounds. These horses must also have their temperature taken and logged twice daily while on the competition grounds. The log of temperatures should be provided to the Competition Management, steward, or technical delegate when requested.

Navigating the Washington State Ferries with a horse trailer can feel a bit daunting, but with a little planning, it is a smooth trip. You can view the schedules and depart from Fauntleroy (West Seattle) or Southworth (Kitsap Peninsula), or Point Defiance (Tacoma). 

Island-Local Tips for Hauling:

• Arrive Early: It is always better to be first in line and relax than to just miss the boat and wait an extra 45 minutes. Bring a book and enjoy the view!

• The South End Route (Pt. Defiance to Tahlequah): If you take this route, you can ask the staff to let you park down on the flat near the ferry entry. You still wait your turn, but it is much less stressful on the horses, and there is usually a nice breeze by the water to keep them cool.

• Low Tide Trailer Clearance: Unless your rig has a ground clearance of more than 14 inches, you will not be able to load or unload during extreme low tides. They only publish the charts a few months out, so please check the WSDOT Tidal Restrictions page before finalizing your travel times.
