Personnell: Gene Ween, Dean Ween
WEEN TODAY
This is the third Ween LP. It is arguably the best of the three. It just might be the best record of all time, but probably not since most music sucks anymore. We recorded this mother between February and August of 1991 at Holly Pond Farm in Solebury, Pennsylvania where we resided (mostly in misery) for about 2 years. We had a cat, a ping pong table, a four-track, a tv and about a million files that survived entire winters in our apartment. Our telephone was turned off about 65% of the time and we were consistently 3 months behind on our rent for the final year or so. There was a woman who lived (and slept) about ten feet above the room where we recorded this; just remember that as you listen. The bulk of 'PURE GUAVA' was laid down in the spring so there's a major spring vibe throughout. I don't know why it's coming out in March. I don't think there's gonna be a single from 'GUAVA' on account of all the songs are #1's. White Records has no idea how two guys could write so many #1's. It's really pretty amazing. Anyway, there was usually someone hangin' out at the farm playing ping-pong, or watching tv, therefore, the only guests that appear on GUAVA are three of our closest friends.
After we were evicted in October of '91, we moved not too far away and now we record mostly at the new farmhouse in Lambertville, New Jersey. Our cat, Mandee, ran away the night after we moved, and now some of my friends live in our old apartment. The woman who lived upstairs still calls us for pot and I think she even misses us. Shit, our old landlady sends me goddamn X-mas cards! Looking back, Gene and I shared mononucleosis, hepatitis, and numerous bronchial infections in the fuckin' apartment - I was sick about 1/2 the time I lived there. No girl, no money, no phone, no clean clothes or towels, ever. They wanted us to write a bio for the record, but 'PURE GUAVA' is it's own bio for the final year we lived at the Pod, and I know that all the shit I just mentioned managed to translate onto this record.
