Privacy Policy for Web Page Converter
Last updated: August 5, 2026
1. Introduction
Web Page Converter ("we", "our", or "extension") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and why specific Chrome permissions are required to provide our PDF conversion functionality and premium account management.
2. Information Collection and Use
We prioritize user privacy and data minimization.
- No Browsing History Collection: We do not log, track, sell, or collect your browsing history, visited websites, or page content.
- Page Data Processing: When you initiate a PDF conversion, the current tab's page structure and visual content are processed entirely locally on your device via Chrome's native rendering engine to generate the PDF file.
- Account Information: If you sign in via MyExtHub, your account email address and subscription status are synchronized and stored locally to verify your premium features and trial usage.
3. Explanation of Required Permissions
To perform its core functions, Web Page Converter requires the following Chrome extension permissions:
a) "debugger" Permission:
- Purpose: The extension uses Chrome's native Chrome DevTools Protocol (`chrome.debugger`) specifically to execute the `Page.printToPDF` API.
- Why it is necessary: This allows the extension to generate accurate, high-quality vector PDF documents directly from the active tab while preserving formatting, custom fonts, images, and layout.
- Privacy assurance: The debugger permission is attached only temporarily during the explicit PDF generation request initiated by the user and is immediately detached upon completion.
b) "downloads" Permission:
- Purpose: Enables the extension to call `chrome.downloads.download`.
- Why it is necessary: This allows the extension to save the generated PDF file directly to your computer's local Downloads folder.
c) "storage" Permission:
- Purpose: Uses `chrome.storage.sync` and `chrome.storage.local`.
- Why it is necessary: This is used to store user preferences (e.g., default page orientation, margin preferences, scale settings), track trial usage limits, and remember your login session status.
d) "cookies" Permission:
- Purpose: Accesses `chrome.cookies` for the specific domain `https://myexthub.com`.
- Why it is necessary: Used to store an anonymous trial timestamp cookie to persist trial state across browser sessions and extension reinstalls, preventing abuse while ensuring fair access.
e) Host Permissions ("<all_urls>"):
- Purpose: Grants permission to interact with active web tabs.
- Why it is necessary: Web Page Converter is designed to convert any webpage selected by the user into a PDF. The `<all_urls>` permission is required by Chrome's Debugger API to attach to the tab that the user explicitly chooses to print.
f) Content Script Permission ("https://myexthub.com/*"):
- Purpose: Runs a content script strictly on `https://myexthub.com/*` domain pages.
- Why it is necessary: Automatically synchronizes your subscription status and account email when you sign in to your MyExtHub dashboard.
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
- We do not sell, rent, trade, or transfer your personal data or page content to third parties.
- Network requests are restricted to verifying subscription status with our authentication server at `https://myexthub.com`.
5. Security
We implement standard security measures to protect your local storage and session data. All PDF processing happens locally on your browser.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be reflected in this document with a revised "Last updated" date.
