Sherryl Mae Rivers, 78, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away on November 16, 2025. Services are entrusted to Webb Undertaking.
Sherryl Mae D. Rivers was a true child of the South, a jewel born into the hands of Brother Otis Cleveland Davenport and Mother Verna Beatrice Davenport right there in Greenville, South Carolina, on that blessed day of December 19, 1947.
Little Sherryl Mae grew up knowing the warmth of the sun and the strength of the Spirit. Her home was steeped in the scent of Sunday dinner and the hymns ringing out from the old piano. She was a bright, quick-witted child, known for tending the garden with her Mama and for always bringing a smile and a hand to help the neighbors on her block. She was raised on lessons from the Bible and the wisdom of her elders, understanding early on that service was the rent we pay for living.
She went on to attend Claflin University, where she earned her degree in Education, carrying the light of knowledge for over 30 years as a beloved schoolteacher. She met the love of her life, [Leroy J. Rivers ], while working at the church revival, and together they built a home filled with faith, laughter, and structure. Sherryl Mae was a faithful servant, a devoted wife and mother, and a cornerstone of her church and community, always offering grace and a word of encouragement.
Arrangements are incomplete.
