Read a bunch of reviews on the best web hosting services for small business, then read the customer reviews on Trustpilot, then go search Reddit for recommendations, and you’ll end up less decided than you started!
There is really no best or worst web host. Each one has pros and cons, and there is almost always a compromise you have to accept with any provider you choose.
If you are starting a new online business and you’re not sure where things will go, it makes sense to start with as little investment as possible, and that’s what I want to focus on in this article: the most cost-effective hosting services that I’ve used myself. Getting straight into it...
Hostinger gets a lot of backlash on Reddit, but I’d say it’s a good option if you want the cheapest website builder and hosting for small business without using WordPress.
They have their own website builder with built-in eCommerce features (make sure the plan you choose includes eCommerce). It’s not as customizable as WordPress/WooCommerce, but it’s a lot easier for a beginner to build an online store with it while keeping their sanity.
It’s good if you want to get the ball rolling without spending much at first. You get a functional online store for a fraction of the price of other platforms.
The biggest compromise with Hostinger is support. They switched to an AI chat agent and they made it harder to access human support. The AI agent does help in a lot of cases, especially with common technical issues, but when you ask for human support, you may have to wait hours or days to get a response.
Pricing
Hostinger keeps changing their plans and pricing from time to time. Their eCommerce website builder is now separate from their regular web hosting plans. As of September 2026, the eCommerce plan costs $5.99/month for the first year then renews for $8.99/month. That’s $71.88 for the first year and then $107.88 per year for renewal.
If you want to create a small WordPress or static website for your small business, Shock Hosting is one of the cheapest hosts at $2.99/month.
I’ve been using Shock Hosting for many years, specifically for newly created websites that don’t get a lot of traffic and don’t need a lot of server resources. I haven’t had any issues with them and I highly recommend them for small websites.
It’s one of the most honest companies I’ve used. There is no upselling or bait-and-switch discounts. Renewal prices stay low whether you pay monthly or yearly. And they have responsive human support agents.
Pricing
The cheapest shared hosting plan costs $2.99 per month and renews at the same price. It includes unlimited storage, bandwidth, and email accounts. You also get a free dedicated IP address.
HostArmada is another affordable web hosting provider I’ve had a flawless experience with. Their servers are very stable and I haven’t had any problems with them.
They give you generous amounts of server resources (CPU and RAM), so it’s a better option for running a WooCommerce site. I’d recommend the Speed Reaper plan for eCommerce since it has the highest resource allocations with LiteSpeed server-side caching.
Pricing
The cheapest plan (Launcher) costs $2.39/month with a 1-year prepaid plan, or $1.99/month with a 3-year prepaid plan. The renewal price is $11.95/month for the annual plan, and $9.95/month for the 3-year plan. You get free SSL certificates or optional premium SSL certificates (PositiveSSL). I used the free certificate included with the plan.
Namecheap deserves a mention here, but I kept it for last because it’s not my first choice for hosting small business websites.
They have low-cost shared cPanel hosting with decent features and all. Nothing really that special, it’s just regular shared hosting that works.
But lately I’ve had some downtime incidents with Namecheap’s hosting, so I’d think twice before using it for any future websites.
There is another thing I don’t like: they don’t have free SSL certificates. They only have premium SSL certificates, which they give you for free for the first year, then each certificate renews for an additional $13.20 per year.
I still consider Namecheap a good host, but not as good as Shock Hosting or HostArmada.
Pricing
The cheapest shared hosting plan at Namecheap (Stellar) costs $1.83/month or $21.96/year for the first year, and after that renews for $55.88/year.
