Role Summary
The Web Accessibility Consultant ensures that digital products are inclusive, usable, and compliant with accessibility standards and regulations. This role involves auditing websites and applications, advising stakeholders, and guiding design and development teams to meet accessibility best practices, including WCAG standards. The consultant bridges technical, design, and user experience considerations to create accessible digital experiences for all users, including people with disabilities.
Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits of websites, web applications, and digital documents using automated tools and manual testing techniques
Evaluate compliance with accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1/2.2, WAI-ARIA, and relevant legal frameworks (e.g., ADA, Section 508, EN 301 549)
Identify accessibility barriers affecting users with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and neurological disabilities
Provide clear, actionable remediation recommendations to designers, developers, and content creators
Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure accessibility is integrated into design systems, wireframes, and user flows
Work closely with developers to implement accessible HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA patterns
Test digital products using assistive technologies such as screen readers (e.g., NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver), keyboard-only navigation, and magnification tools
Create and deliver accessibility documentation, reports, and conformance statements (e.g., VPATs)
Educate and train internal teams and clients on accessibility principles, inclusive design, and best practices
Advocate for accessibility as a core component of digital strategy and user experience
Stay current with evolving accessibility standards, tools, and assistive technologies
Strong knowledge of WCAG guidelines and accessibility principles
Proficiency in semantic HTML and accessible front-end development practices
Experience with accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, Lighthouse, WAVE, Accessibility Insights)
Familiarity with assistive technologies and real-world user needs
Ability to translate technical accessibility issues into clear, non-technical guidance for stakeholders
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Certification in web accessibility (e.g., IAAP CPACC, WAS, or CPWA)
Experience working in Agile or cross-functional product teams
Knowledge of accessibility in mobile applications and design systems
Background in UX design, front-end development, or QA testing
Experience consulting with clients across multiple industries
