Im having exactly the same problem on my desktop. The device is listed under devices and printers but no driver is installed and its not listed as an available drive as access is denied. When I tell it to install a driver I get the same message saying its found one but had encountered an error installing it.

I opted to go to the Western Digital Support pages (official website) to see what I could download. Go here:

Wd My Passport Driver Windows 8.1 Download

Thank you Ekalb, that solves one mystery, though I still don't understand how I could have a signed up, imported passwords, and used the browser version of 1P without ever downloading the program. It seems like that download would have happened during the sign up process.

Regardless, having 1P v8 installed has not solved my problem of being unable to attach files to items. For example, I have a passport item with all my passport information entered as text. I'd like to attach an image of the passport. Now, with 1P v8 installed, when I go to edit the + button remains in view but is grayed out and non-functional. Thoughts?

I have a Western Digital My Passport 1TB USB3 that is readable from a laptop, but would not appear as a drive on my PC that runs Windows 7 64bit. I fixed the problem by reinstalling the driver for the drive with the following steps:

If you can see the drive letter in the XP box then you won't need that driver. Just put it in a newer machine, open diskpart, select the disk, clean it (this will completely erase the disk!) then pop it back in the XP box and setup the backup.

I would build a virtual windows xp machine and use smaller thumb drives to port them across or if you have access to them via network clone them to the other machine. I have win 3.0, 3.1, 3.11, xp, 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, 7, 8, 10 all running on my Linux box... I even threw in a C 64 for a splash of color. my co workers are often confused when the c 64 spins up. Could not get a Model III session ever started my greatest shame.

The SES driver is not required for your drive to be recognized by your computer. If your drive is not recognized please see Answer ID 1708: I cannot find drivers for my WD drive and/or my Operating System fails to recognize my WD drive.

The SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) driver is different from the Virtual CD, and the WD SmartWare software. To access many of the optional features of your drive, you will be required to install both the SES driver, and the WD SmartWare software. If you wish to use the drive as a simple hard drive and do not require access to the advanced features of the drive, you can hide the VCD by following Answer ID 3835: How to disable (hide) the Virtual CD (VCD) for Windows or Mac OSX on a My Book or My Passport drive . Western Digital still recommends installing the SES driver when not using WD SmartWare, but the drive will function without it. The prompts to install the driver are part of the Windows Operating system and will always occur when connecting a drive to a Windows PC without the driver installed.

You can download a copy of the SES driver from our knowledge base. For assistance doing this please see Answer ID 5419: WD SES driver download and instructions for recovering the WD SmartWare installer.

Windows attempts to install a driver called the SES Driver every time I connect the drive to a computer. What is this driver, why is it required and how can I get rid of the repeated prompts to install the driver?

At install, the Windows operating system detects this SCSI communications channel and attempts to install a SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) driver. This driver is only used by your hard drive and is installed by default when you first attach the drive to a computer.

However if you did not install the driver upon first install and chose not to install WD Smartware, Windows will continue to prompt you to install the driver each time you connect the drive to a computer. This will continue to occur unless the SES driver is installed.

We recommend that you install the driver by selecting the Install the software automatically option on the popup screen. Windows will automatically find the Windows SES driver online, and the prompting will disappear. This will not affect your operating system negatively in any way. If Windows is unable to find the driver you can download a copy of the driver from Answer ID 5419: WD SES driver download and instructions for recovering the WD SmartWare installer.

When we talk to Passport users the main driver is the ability to offer Terminal Emulation via HTML5 in a web browser, so access on any device, deploy anywhere, remote access, work from home. This is something Passport cannot do.

The most easiest way I discovered when encountered same kind of problem with my passport. in Control Panel go to Devices and Printers. That would be the only place you can see your passport visible. open its properties and then open drivers, simply uninstall it, come out unplug your passport drive. Restart your computer and insert/plugin your passport again into PC. It will automatically start installing drivers and here you can start using your passport drive comfortably.

(For people still visiting my thread): First, thanks PS. When my WD fails to show up in Explorer, it fails to show under Disk Management as well, so it's not a driver letter issue. For people who cannot find their WD device under explorer but it is visible under Disk Management. Please try PS's recommendation.

The partial power on trick seems to relate to 5 volt rail spin up before the computer tryies to read the existence of the device....for some reason putting the device USB in all the way means the computer has finished reading for connected devices BEFORE the drive has reached optimal spin speed in order to allow the drivers to read the device as working..This could be due to poorly defragged drive...or the computer psu already in using its full resources on other peripherals....which means the external drive takes longer to spin up than it should. So e external drives have their own power supplies for this reason.

Kodak Alaris has several integration options for our scanners.

We have traditional thick client integration options with our TWAIN and ISIS and WIA drivers as well as an easy to use Scanner SDK.

We also have a state of the art RESTful Web API for integration to our network enabled scanners from any platform without installing host drivers.

If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. Enter Western Digital My Passport Ultra into the search box above and then submit. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system.

Once you have downloaded your new driver, you'll need to install it. In Windows, use a built-in utility called Device Manager, which allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.
