Liv was a Kaldoran human who travelled as a medical technician. She met the Seventh Doctor aboard the Lorelei and later met the Eighth Doctor on Nixyce VII, joining him and Molly O'Sullivan in the TARDIS after encountering them aboard the Orpheus.

Liv continued to travel with the Doctor after Molly's departure, later being joined by Helen Sinclair whilst tracking the Eleven.

The TARDIS left them stranded on London, Earth, 2020. There, Liv struggled to adapt but found help in Tania Bell, whom she started dating.
