Working Class Party is on the Ballot in Maryland for 2026
I am putting myself forward as the Working Class Party candidate for governor in the 2026 election. I am not a professional politician. For the last 40 years I have worked in a factory as a production worker.
More than ever, I think the working class needs its own political organization. Something more than a union. An organization that goes far beyond one workplace or one industry. An organization that rests on the working class, currently working, retired, unemployed, immigrant, native-born, black, white, women, men, non-union, union. An organization that speaks to our common problems and current concerns, like jobs or rather the lack of jobs, low-wages, inflation, war.
What qualifies me to be a candidate for Working Class Party is I am a worker who understands that workers need such an organization and that we need to organize to make a fight. I reject all the attacks on my fellow workers, including immigrants, black people, Hispanic people, women, protesters, veterans, gay and transgender people. All these attacks divide us and weaken us.
I am a worker who like millions of other workers, was a caregiver for my mom who had Parkinson’s and dementia – while working full time, with forced overtime. I was also a caregiver for my sister with Down syndrome. I know the overwhelming pressures of caregiving on your time, finances, and your mental and emotional well-being. Rich people can hire workers to take care of their children and their aging parents. We don’t have that luxury. Childcare and eldercare are more than what most of us can afford.
I am now experiencing what millions of older workers experience – our bodies are falling apart due to overwork. But economically, many of us have no way to retire. Worse still, many retired workers have come out of retirement and back to work in order to survive. We work our whole lives and the best this society has to offer us is the work-till-you-die retirement plan.
The bosses are shedding workers, making the workers who remain do the jobs of 2 or more workers. Many of us are working more hours, more days. So, we are working harder and faster with less time off.
Young workers can’t find work. Gig workers get no benefits. Schools for our children are dilapidated, roads and bridges are falling apart, and sewage pipes are breaking, sending raw sewage everywhere.
And we have been dragged into another war in the Middle East. This is a war that only billionaires benefit from. The defense contractors, the oil and gas companies, grow fat, while we pay through the nose for gas. Workers have no reason to support this war.
Workers are made to feel powerless, helpless, victims. This is a lie promoted by a tiny class of billionaires who must use lies and violence just to stay in power. Workers play a central role in this economy. We can hold all the cards when we organize as one force. We can refuse exploitation by the billionaires. We can refuse to be ruled. We can refuse to believe the lies about ourselves and each other.
We, workers, do all the work to make everything run in this society. Our labor produces all the wealth. But we have no decision-making power.
That’s nuts!
It only makes sense that since we make everything run, we should be running things. We should be in charge. NOT the billionaires. The billionaires have two political parties. The workers – none. It is past time to change that.
