The Watauga County Retired School Personnel hosted Region 1-B Fall Convention of North Carolina Retired School Personnel. The counties in this region include: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, McDowell, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey. All of the local counties sent delegates to the meeting except one. A delicious luncheon, provided by Norm and Karen Crotts, was enjoyed by all.
Boone Mayor Tim Futrelle brought a warm welcome to all our visitors.
Democrat candidate for NC State House, Ben Massey (a big supporter of public schools) spoke to the group about his concerns for the future of our state.
