MUSEUM & HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOURS

Washington County Museum

The Washington County Museum was purchased by the Historical Society in 1981.  The museum opened in 1983 with two floors of exhibits.  It was dedicated on September 14, 1986.

In 1993, the Historical Society members purchased a building south of the museum which has exhibits of farm and business life, in addition to the Museum Office and Genealogy Department. This office has much of the Washington County History and Genealogy. We invite anyone and everyone to come in to research family, business, town or county history. We refer to this as the Museum Office or Family Research Center.

The sheriff residence and jail was donated to the Society in 1997 by the Washington County Commissioners.  Built in 1899, at the cost of $8,000; the jail is open for tours upon request along with the One Room School House (Emmons, District #2) that was moved and placed next to the Museum Office from its location North of Washington.
