Unlike the National Health Service (NHS) which is funded through taxes, social care must be paid for by those who need it. Many people are entitled to help with paying for this care. Under the current system, anyone whose savings and capital amounts to less than £14,000 is entitled to have their care paid for entirely by the state, while those with less than £23, 000 may have their care part-funded. Even so, paying for care can be a huge burden for families and cause tremendous anxiety, with an estimated 30 000 people forced to sell their homes each year to meet the costs.
