# Wayfar Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 November 2026
Wayfar ("the app") is a step counter that turns your walking into a journey around the world. This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: your walking data stays on your phone, there is no account, and the only thing that leaves your phone is what the advertising service needs to show a banner.

## What Wayfar uses
**Step counts.** With your permission (Physical activity), the app reads your phone's step counter. It stores a daily total of steps and an estimated distance on your phone. Distance is estimated from steps and a fixed stride length, so it is never exact.
**Achievements, places and settings.** The places you have reached, the discoveries you have unlocked, your daily goal, your units (kilometres or miles) and your notification choices are stored on your phone.
**Earlier steps from Health Connect (only if you choose).** If you tap "Import earlier steps" in Profile and allow it, the app reads daily step totals from Health Connect once, to fill in days before you installed Wayfar. It reads steps only, nothing else in Health Connect. The totals are stored on your phone like any other day. You can withdraw the permission at any time in Health Connect.
**Notifications (only if you choose).** If you switch notifications on, the app posts notifications on your phone about new places and rare discoveries. Nothing is sent to a server to do this.
**Location.** The app never uses your location.
## What leaves your phone: advertising
Wayfar shows banner ads on the Journey and Collections screens, provided by Google AdMob. To show an ad, Google's advertising software may collect and use your device's advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, and ad interaction data. This is governed by Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the app first asks for your consent through a consent form. If you decline, the app still works fully, and ads that are shown are not personalised. You can review your choice in Profile, under Privacy, where "Ad privacy choices" appears when it applies to you. You can also reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalisation in your Android settings.
The app never sends your steps, places, achievements or imported Health Connect data to advertisers or to us.
## No account, no servers of our own
Wayfar has no sign-in and no developer server. We do not receive or store your data.
## Backups
Android may back up an app's data to your Google account if you have Android backup switched on. If it is on, the app's stored data (the items above) can be included in that backup. This is controlled by your phone's backup settings and handled by Google, not by us.
## Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your phone until you remove it. Profile has "Erase all my data", which permanently deletes your steps, discoveries and settings from the app and returns it to the start. Uninstalling the app also removes it. Data held by Google (advertising, any Android backup) is managed through your Google account.
## Children
Wayfar is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
## Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new date.
