The play was written to be a commentary about immigration. With the rise of conservatism, there was no better time to show how flawed it is to blame everything on immigrants. The play's graphic nature was used to represent how grave and relevant the situation is, and what could occur if people continue to remain bystanders. Waxen Wings hopes that the world won't suffer from Refuge's ending.
