I am a Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. I received my Ph.D. in Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine, in the year 2007. My research primarily integrates cutting-edge space technology and remotely sensed observations with state-of-the-art models to improve the fundamental understanding of the Earth’s hydrologic system. In particular, my research focuses on the processes that characterize and govern the fluxes, availability, and quality of water. I am also interested in assessing how improved scientific understanding can augment the management of critical water resources and alleviate risks related to droughts, floods, and land subsidence.

I lead the Water Resources and Remote Sensing (WatRS) Laboratory. Research activities in my laboratory include analysis of hydrologic stores (soil moisture, groundwater, glaciers) and fluxes (evapotranspiration, river discharge) over a range of space and time scales. We are also actively involved in InSAR-based studies of land subsidence and precursory studies of earthquakes using in-situ observations of groundwater.
