Mackenzie Krone was raised in the town of Granbury, TX, on the outskirts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. After he was named the valedictorian of his high school, he made the quick trip to Conway, AR, to study chemistry at Hendrix College. While there, he performed research in the group of Professor David Hales studying the photofragmentation of thiophene. After four years exploring the "City of Colleges," he decided to move to an area where there were actual universities - The Research Triangle - to pursue his PhD in biological chemistry at UNC - Chapel Hill. During his time here he spent most of his time thinking about what trail he'll bike next or what craft beer he'll drink later in the evening, but in the meantime, he investigated the reactivity of non-canonical amino acids and the role of mutations on the binding pocket of HP1 chromodomain.

Mackenzie is currently a post doc at Yale working in the lab of professor Craig Crews.
