Trouble in Mind casts Seattle as the fictional "Rain City," the past-meets-future environment of Alan Rudolph's neo-noir love story. Ex-cop Hawk (Kris Kristofferson) has just been released from prison, and soon reunites with his ex Wanda (Genevieve Bujold), who runs a diner in a lowly part of town. Young destitute couple Coop (Keith Carradine) and Georgia (Lori Singer) make the move to the big city to provide a better future for their new child. All of their lives will soon be intertwined as they converge at Wanda's Cafe. Perhaps never before or since has Seattle been been portrayed so uniquely in a film.
Coop looks for work at Lakeside Sand & Gravel off 230th Avenue SE in Issaquah, WA.
Soon after release from prison, Hawk is seen under the distinctive curved ceiling of Union Station at 4th Avenue South and South Jackson Street.
He is then seen exiting a bus near Piers 62/63 on the waterfront. The Alaskan Way Viaduct, Smith Tower and even one of the old waterfront streetcars can be seen in the background.
We then see him walk behind a parade in front of 1931 2nd Avenue, across from the Moore Theater.
The main setting of the film, Wanda's Cafe was created by the film crew in an abandoned space at 115 Blanchard Street. Wanda and Hawk's apartments were located upstairs. Now it is Spur Gastropub.
Coop and Georgia arrive in Rain City via a ferry ride across Elliott Bay.
Coop and Solo (Joe Morton) hijack a load of watches at 1001 6th Avenue South, with the Kingdome in the background - today Century Link Field stands in its place.
The docks on Harbor Island southwest of downtown was where they first conduct business with Leo (Albert Hall).
Coop and Solo later visit the 1904 Restaurant at 1904 Fourth Avenue, which would later become the original location of the Dahlia Lounge. They mug a couple on the street outside...
...and turn the corner and drive off down Stewart Street toward 5th Avenue.
Hawk has a drink at Charlie's Tavern, which was located at 6th Avenue & Pike Street (also seen in House of Games). This was torn down for the current NikeTown building.
Coop and Solo end up spending a lot of time at the Camlin Hotel at 1619 9th Avenue. Late in the film, Hawk goes there to confront Coop.
Georgia shops for strollers in a now-extinct store called Children's Corner in Northgate Mall north of Seattle. She also shops at The Bon there too.
Georgia runs with child past a protest in Occidental Park, between South Washington & South Main Streets on Occidental Avenue South in Pioneer Square.
She is next seen ducking into Post Alley alongside Pike Place Market to avoid Hawk.
Hawk walks down 3rd Avenue between South Washington Street and South Main Street, when Rambo (Dirk Blocker) catches up with him.
Coop and Solo have a meeting with crime boss Blue Hilly (Divine) in China Gate Restaurant at 516 7th Avenue South in the International District.
It is also outside in the Northgate Mall parking lot where Georgia leaves her baby in a family's car.
Georgia soon regrets her last move while walking down 5th Avenue past Wall Street.
Coop and Solo have a shady meeting on the south side of Union Station. Today, a large office building stands in this location. Smith Tower is in the left-hand corner. Later, Hawk looks for Coop here and finds Solo.
Coop and Solo find two more wealthy victims in the Space Needle's revolving restaurant.
Georgia and Hawk ride on the Seattle Center Monorail.
Georgia is consoled by Hawk on Pine Street in front of the Paramount Theater (911 Pine).
Solo lives in the clocktower of King Street Station at 303 South Jackson Street.
Hilly Blue's compound was filmed in Capitol Hill's Volunteer Park. This art deco style gate was built for the film at the park's south entrance at 14th Avenue East & East Prospect Street. The park's 1906 brick water tower can be seen in the background.
The mansion was Seattle Art Museum, now the Seattle Asian Art Museum, just further north of the above location at 1400 East Prospect Street.
