Jerry Renault (Ilan Mitchell-Smith), the new boy at a Catholic boy's school, decides to take a stand against the school's bizarre rituals and soon finds himself facing off against "The Vigils," the school's group of bullies led by the headmaster Brother Leon (John Glover). Washington provided the dark, gloomy atmosphere of the film based on the novel of the same name by Robert Cormier.
Football field and bleacher scenes were filmed at Sammamish High School at 100 140th Avenue SE in Bellevue, WA. The field and bleachers have since been redone and look much different. Ingraham High School at 1819 North 135th Street in Seattle was also used, perhaps for locker room scenes (which were not filmed at Sammamish).
The exterior shot of the school shows the old seminary building at Saint Edward State Park at 14445 Juanita Drive Northeast in Kenmore.
Interior shots were done in the seminary as well.
