Probably the one film most often associated with Seattle, this famous "chick flick" featured very few scenes actually shot in Seattle (in comparison to other films on this site); filming also in Baltimore & New York. Tom Hanks is Sam Baldwin, the recent widower reluctant to date again, and Meg Ryan plays Annie Seed - who falls for Sam after hearing a radio broadcast his son put him up to. Since most of the film takes place elsewhere, I will focus on just the Seattle portion of the film.
Annie and Walter (Bill Pullman) visit her parents for Christmas dinner at 1235 2nd Avenue North on lower Queen Anne Hill (thanks to Lindsay at Iamnotastalker).
Sam & Jonah's (Ross Malinger) houseboat is on the NW end of Lake Union. The address on Sam's mailbox (still there in the bushes in front of the dock) identifies it as 2460 Westlake Avenue North. A good viewpoint is from Gas Works Park (above).
The ballroom where Annie & Walter dance while Sam watches fireworks is in the Dome Room of the Arctic Building at 700 3rd Avenue downtown.
Sam and his pal Jay (Rob Reiner) walk south down 1st Avenue between Stewart & Pine.
They then turn the corner and walk down Pine toward Pike Place Market.
They are next seen eating at the Athenian Inn at 1517 Pike Place (inside the market).
The restaurant where Sam has a date was originally the 1904 Restaurant, then the original location of the Dahlia Lounge (now the Toi Restaurant) at 1904 Fourth Avenue. It has been remodeled and looks nothing the same on the inside. The Dahlia Lounge is now located at 2001 Fourth Avenue.
Sam's new girlfriend buys Sam & Jonah groceries inside Pike Place Market.
Jonah's friend Jessica (Gaby Hoffmann) lives at 1816 4th Avenue North on lower Queen Anne (thanks to Iamnotastalker).
Gate N7 at Sea-Tac Airport is where Sam & Jonah say goodbye to Sam's girlfriend and where Sam & Annie first make eye contact.
The shot of Annie's car entering the city from the freeway is a shot of I-5 from the Yesler Way overpass.
Annie turns off Western Avenue onto Denny Way with the Space Needle in the background, although most of the surrounding buildings look much different today.
Annie drives by Alki beach on Alki Avenue SW, between 58th Avenue SW & 59th Avenue SW.
When Annie spots Sam & Jonah on the beach from here, she does a U-turn and pulls her car over to the corner of 58th and spies on them from behind a building that is no longer there but is now Duke's Chowder House at 2516 Alki Avenue SW.
Annie sees Sam with his sister when she parks across Westlake Avenue North from the parking lot just south of the houseboat.
The scenes atop the observation deck of the Empire State Building were actually shot on a replica set built in a converted hangar of the former Sand Point Naval Air Station in Magnuson Park. Several of these hangars have been used on films since.
