Matt (Chris O'Donnell) is a Seattle area high school student who falls for the new girl Casey (Drew Barrymore) after spying on her through his telescope. After a botched suicide attempt and an escape from the hospital, they set out on the road together. This film shot at several locations in Washington and New Mexico.
At the start of the film, Matt is seen rowing on the north end of Lake Washington, with the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge (Highway 520) behind him.
Matt hangs out with his friends on Pier 57 on Seattle's waterfront.
They go on their first date at a punk show in Post Alley below Pike Place Market.
Naturally, they go upstairs to the market.
Casey surprises Matt by pulling the fire alarm while he's taking his SAT at Sammamish High School at 100 140th Avenue SE in Bellevue. This same school was also used in The Chocolate War.
They drive down 5th Avenue near Wall Street in Seattle.
In a helicopter shot, they are seen driving on the Alaskan Way Viaduct along the waterfront.
They are seen driving westbound on I-90 west of Snoqualmie Pass near Franklin Falls.
While they drive along I-90, Matt suggests a stop and they end up at Franklin Falls.
After their escape, they are seen driving south on I-5 through the I-90 interchange and past the Kingdome (R.I.P.).
Matt calls home from the corner of North 5th Street & West Railroad Avenue in Skykomish, WA. He and Casey then drive north on West Railroad.
