This 1977 biopic starring Gregory Peck filmed largely in California.
The scene of General MacArthur at the signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender on the USS Missouri was actually filmed aboard the Missouri while it was stationed at Naval Station Bremerton (now Naval Base Kitsap) in Washington. Wide shots used matte paintings to make the ship appear as if it were sitting in Tokyo Bay.
Shortly after filming, the ship was brought to Long Beach Naval shipyard and modernized before seeing action again in the Gulf War in the early 1990s. It was decommissioned in 1992 and today serves as a museum ship at Pearl Harbor, HI.
