In 1920 Washington reported its highest U.S. Census population ever with 1,643 residents.

Washington School District voted to make WHS a community school servng the entire township; therefore the new name—Washington Community High School (WCHS).

The Petri Grocery and the Model Grocery as well as the upstairs businesses of the Dr. R.T. McClung dental office and R.W. Vogelsang's insurance office burned.  Henry Esser would rebuild a brick structure at the location that we would know as 108-110 North Main Street.
