Edmund Reich purchased the lot now at 127 Washington Square to construct a two-story brick building. The previous wood-frame building was undoubtedly destroyed in the 1895 Sun Power explosion. Reich constructed what became the Danforth Bank building and the home of the Washington Historical Society. Reich ran a saloon there until the Danforth Bank took control in 1903.
