WALUNATENG DIRAH was conceived from the depths of silence — a shadow born when Kadek D. Putra Pande, also known as Nararya Putra Pande or Brutalsick, placed his main band KI BARAK SELEM on temporary rest in mid-2024.
Rather than remain dormant, he chose to channel his creative force into a new entity — one that dives deeper into the unseen realm of Balinese mysticism.
Thus emerged WALUNATENG DIRAH: a manifestation of sound that bridges dark art, ancestral energy, and inner reflection.
Where KI BARAK SELEM embodies the fierce union of death and ritual, WALUNATENG DIRAH stands as its darker spiritual mirror — slower, colder, yet burning with sacred fire.
The name WALUNATENG DIRAH carries ancient resonance. It is taken from Balinese mythology, particularly the tale of Calonarang, one of the island’s most mysterious legends.
In that story, Walunateng Dirah, also known as Matah Gede, was once the widowed queen of Dirah — a powerful sorceress and master of forbidden knowledge.
Feared by kings, revered by her disciples, she represents the eternal duality of existence: the nurturing mother and the destroyer, the bringer of disease and the healer of spirit.
Through her, the sacred and the profane intertwine; good and evil lose their meaning.
It is this paradox that forms the spiritual spine of WALUNATENG DIRAH — music as ritual, sound as transformation.
WALUNATENG DIRAH’s sound is a fusion of Black Metal’s furious chaos and Dark Metal’s deep, oppressive atmosphere, bound together by the pentatonic essence of Balinese traditional tones.
It is a storm of blastbeats, cold tremolo guitars, and piercing scream vocals, but beneath the aggression lies melody — hypnotic, ritualistic, and distinctly Balinese.
Each song unfolds like an ancient ceremony, summoning the spirits of the island’s shadowed temples, the whispers of sacred forests, and the echo of long-forgotten mantras.
The result is not just metal — it is a ritual in sound, a bridge between the modern and the mystical.
The lyrics of WALUNATENG DIRAH dive into the spiritual darkness of Balinese mysticism, exploring the hidden path of LEAK / LIYAK / PENGELEAKAN, where sacred energy meets forbidden power.
Each composition weaves pengiwa mantras and symbolic verses, echoing the age-old struggle between light and shadow.
Through stories of Calonarang, and the invocation of ancient spirits, the lyrics become living prayers — chanted not for rebellion, but for understanding the balance of the soul.
Every word is both an offering and a warning: that enlightenment can only be found by facing the darkness within.
While its music may breathe the fire of Black Metal, WALUNATENG DIRAH rejects the ideology of blasphemy and nihilism often tied to the genre.
Instead, it tells ancient tales and channels the sacred knowledge of Balinese mysticism — transforming darkness into a form of devotion, not desecration.
This is not a denial of divinity; it is a deeper communion with it, through the esoteric pathways of Bali’s spiritual heritage.
Each composition becomes an invocation, a bridge between realms seen and unseen, echoing the eternal dance of creation and destruction.
Therefore, WALUNATENG DIRAH stands not as a mere Black Metal act, but as a spiritual embodiment of duality — Where Ancient Sorcery Breathes Again — carrying the legacy of Bali’s hidden mysticism into the modern darkness.
Every composition, lyric, and arrangement in WALUNATENG DIRAH is crafted solely by Nararya Putra Pande, making it a true reflection of his inner journey.
He walks the solitary path of the musical sorcerer — shaping sound with instinct, channeling ancient energy through his instruments.
