Former SeaWorld trainers Jeffrey Ventre and Cynthia Payne have both stated that this calf died in utero when his mother passed from sepsis -- another source implies that this calf was born on April 8th, with his mother following on the 22nd.
It is not known whether this calf was living or stillborn. If living he may have passed the following day, on the 9th.
Garfield is likely the father of this pup, although I have not yet seen any direct confirmation of this.
