Notes and Information

This pup was hand-raised after concerns about her weight while nursing from her mother.

On August 9th, 2017 a naming contest was announced for this pup; the options were Ginger, for her red fur; Gabi, for her frequent vocalizations; and Umma, a word meaning "Hope", for the walrus populations under threat in the wild. It was announced on August 14th that her name would be Ginger.

Ginger is suspected to have been transferred to SeaWorld Orlando in late 2022. She was last sighted at Indianapolis on August 24th; by October 5th, gray seals had been placed on display in the facility's walrus habitat. She was confirmed to be in holding at SeaWorld Orlando's Sea Lion and Otter stadium in January of 2023.

Ginger returned on public display at the Indianapolis Zoo on July 1st, 2024; although a date of transfer was not specified, the Zoo stated that she had been in Orlando for 18 months.
