Notes and Information

Akituusaq's name means "gift given in return" in the Yupik language. Other potential names for the pup were Utvak (meaning ice cube), Ukiivak (meaning King Island), and Utumek (meaning Earth).

Akituusaq's cause of death was "a severe case of pneumonia".
