This facility was founded by Thomas C. Poulter for the Stanford Research Institute in 1964, although it was privately funded by Poulter from around 1971 - 1974, potentially up until his death in 1978.
Two of this facility's walruses were transferred to the San Francisco Zoo for a temporary exhibition in 1968; these are believed to likely be two of either Roberta, Toes, or Spots.
This facility may have temporarily housed San Francisco's walrus Helga prior to her transfer to their facility in June of 1969.
