These are the most recent measures implemented by Walmart in recent weeks to protect the health of its consumers and employees. Shortening store hours for extra cleaning and disinfection, using wipes and sprayers to disinfect carts, putting up information to encourage social separation, and beginning to build sneeze shields at pharmacies and checkout registers are among the other precautions being taken.

According to the post by Walmart and Sam's Club executives, infrared thermometers will be sent to all of its U.S. sites, which could take up to three weeks. In addition, if stocks allow, the company will supply masks and gloves to employees who want them.

"Many associates have been taking their own temperatures at home," Furner and McLay stated, "and we're urging them to keep doing so as we start doing it on-site." Hourly employees may remain home if they have any virus-related symptoms, worries, or illness, or if they are quarantined, under Walmart's covid-19 emergency leave policy. Workers who have been diagnosed with the virus will be paid for two weeks, while those who are compelled to go into quarantine will be paid for up to two weeks.

Employees who are unable to work or who are uneasy at work as a result of the virus, on the other hand, must use their earned time off in order to be paid.

The policy, which went into force on March 10, is in place until the end of the month. It covers both full-time and part-time hourly employees, regardless of their term of service.

Other large merchants, such as grocery giants Kroger and Albertsons, have implemented similar safety precautions in their stores. Target Corp. CEO Brian Cornell said last week that the Minnesota-based company had set aside more time after hours for cleaning and disinfecting stores, added signs and floor decals reminding customers to keep a safe distance in checkout lanes, and begun installing sneeze guards, among other safety measures.

Target has joined Walmart in temporarily upping front-line workers' compensation by $2 an hour and offered incentive rewards to store department managers in order to support its workers. Workers aged 65 and over, pregnant women, and those with underlying health concerns will be able to take paid leave for up to 30 days.

According to Target's corporate website, the company has 1,871 shops and 41 distribution sites around the United States. It has a workforce of almost 350,000 people.

Amazon.com, the e-commerce behemoth, is following suit. It has improved sanitary measures and developed social distancing guidelines in its Whole Foods Market and Amazon Go stores. Customers who shop online for groceries can also select "unattended delivery" during the checkout process, which Sam's Club also offers through delivery service Instacart.
