I just updated my iPhone 11 to iOS 16.2 and now my lock screen is displaying just a black screen with the time, flashlight, and camera icons. I restarted the phone and verified that Settings/Wallpaper is set to select the wallpaper image that I have been using for years. After restarting the iPhone, the correct wallpaper was displayed but the next time the display went to sleep, it was again just showing the black background image.

Thank you, ProustGiulio, for your input. I have already created a customized lock screen photo (that I have been using for years) and have selected it in SettingsWallpaper. However, when I wake the phone from sleep, it is not showing that photo. Instead, it shows a black background with the time, flashlight, and camera icons.

I am experiencing all the same things already mentioned, but in my case, it may (or may not) be related to Do Not Disturb. I do not use Bedtime to schedule DND, but rather simply have it scheduled as DND: On from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., off from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Has worked for years until upgrading from 15.7 to 16.1 on Friday. I had also created wallpaper for lock screen/home screen, and edited from chunky font for time display to thinner, obviously selecting the latter for use. (Kept the orginal unwanted set just in case, as it would be easier to simply modify than going back to wallpaper and starting over in the event it disappeared.

DND malfunctioned immediately following upgrade. It goes on (and, although doesn't always give you the quick notification at the bottom of the home screen, the crescent is displayed above) but often does NOT go off! While on, apparently it chooses to black out the wallpaper selection, which I hate, but this morning, for the first time, it disabled itself on schedule. However - it also immediately switched from my selected wallpaper set in focus to the original chunky font set! It has swapped sets at other times while working on this issue, but unfortunately, I can't be specific - particularly since I didn't realize that was what was occuring. I thought initially that it was simply changing the font.

There have been suggestions (speculation?) that perhaps the problem happens after a OS update - like the update from 16 to 16.1 or 16.1.1 and that a complete reset would resolve the issue. Of course, a complete reset would involve a reinstall of the OS and loss of all settings and data on phone so unless you have a good, reliable backup it might be quite difficult with no guarantee of satisfactory result.

I have the iPhone11Pro and the same thing happened I believe with the update to iOS16.0.2, as of iOS 16.1 the issue remains. Everyday my 7+ year old wallpaper disappears and both the home screen background and the lock screen become completely black.

First I decided to recover the original wallpaper image by following a series of complicated steps. The image is store as a .cpbitmap file, which I believe is an Apple proprietary image format used in iOS and iPadOS. This is what I did in case anyone is curious. Without ever deleting my current wallpaper (even if not showing in the main screen, it still appeared on the Settings app). Instructions using Windows 11 2H22:

Has anyone found a way to disable the new wallpaper zoom on the home screen? I'm not a huge fan of how it cuts off sections of my wallpaper. I had previously edited the wallpaper I use to fit the icons, but because it zooms in now everything is out of alignment and I can't think of an easy way to fix it without knowing exactly how much it zooms.

You can change the background images on your phone's Home screens and lock screens. You can choose from your own photos or use images that come on your phone, including images that change automatically.

in ios 16, branded live wallpapers and special ones for the iphone xs max model have completely disappeared, which is very sad, I hope that Apple developers will return live wallpapers from live photo and exclusive for that model live wallpapersand that I have already tried to put several live photos as wallpaper, but they are just like a static picture and more than one tip from apple care support did not help

Android had live wallpapers ages ago and apple is still unable to crack it. The long press in ios to animate wallpaper concept belongs to the stone age. Bored of seeing the same icons and theme in ios. I might as well switch to android as it offers loads of customization and the phone turns magical and lively. If I'm paying 1000 bucks, I want the phone screen to look how I want it not how apple wants it!

Please stop yelling, DEV knows better what you like and what is not necessary for you any more. They just remove live photo so accept it, adapt yourself to new idea bacause probably you don't understand it at all. Of course they could did a pinch gesture (android style) or L gesture or any other gesture to enable edit mode for lock screen insted of hold a touch what was a live photo start but... if they decide to remove it it's just done. Sometimes if you take out you phone from a pocket and realize that lock screen widget was changed due to self auto hold touch and random edit of lock screen, please don't scream it's a new surprise like 1st April so be smiled and happy you just get a bonus.

You can personalise your device by setting your own wallpaper. Your device includes a selection of wallpapers to choose from, or you can use one of the photos or videos you've taken or downloaded. On some devices you can even choose to set a wallpaper that changes each time you use your device.

There are too many smart phones and sizes, I have to create a lock screen for a client but dont know what size I should be designing, is there a standard size that applies to all? instead of creating separate sizes for different phones. Since wallpaper can be adjusted, wouldn't one large size fit all?

I prefer the iPhone 8 Plus screen which has the dimensions of 414 x 736 pixels. Keep in mind by designing for the largest screen size, you'll inevitably be conceding some of the edges of the design on devices where down-scaling isn't occurring at an exact ratio. Not a "deal breaker" in my opinion but worth noting to a client.

Screen widths (in portrait view) can range anywhere from 320px to 414px, and screen heights range from 568px to 812px. Averaging these out gets you roughly 367 x 690px. These aren't exact dimensions for any phone on the market, but they are close enough to the standard Android size (360 x 640px), the Galaxy S8 (360 x 740px), and the Pixel 2XL (360 x 720px) to justify designing to those screen sizes. I give the edge to the Galaxy S8 in this instance since Samsung currently has the edge in smartphone market share at the moment.

As mentioned in the previous section, Samsung is the preferential smartphone in the consumer market currently holding about 23% of the market share. What makes this a less reliable option for basis of design is iPhone holding just over 15% and the historical power struggle of Samsung vs. iPhone. In such a volatile market, it wouldn't be wise to base design solely on this data point alone.

While you can easily rely on one of these methods, taking all available information into account before crafting a design is the best practice. Before you sketch anything, or open the computer, figure out as much as you can. Solving the problem (in this case, which screen size will best exhibit the design vs. which screen size will best represent a universal experience) first requires the designer to gather information. The more information, the easier the puzzle becomes and the easier it will be to talk to your client about your solution.

Keep in mind that these phone wallpapers, can be used for Apple Watch backgrounds, Instagram and Facebook story photos, and as Instagram highlight covers! I also would love for you share them to your Pinterest account!

Depending on your device manufacturer and the Android launcher that you are using, it may not be possible for you to set a live wallpaper on your lock screen or to only set the same wallpaper as on your home screen.

When previewing a live wallpaper in Wallpaper Engine on your phone, long-press a few seconds on the check-mark symbol in the upper right corner. This brings up the live wallpaper screen of your phone. Depending on your manufacturer, you should now see the option to set the wallpaper on your lock-screen - if this option does not appear, your phone does not support live wallpapers on the lock-screen. The following phone manufacturers are known to not allow live wallpapers on the lock-screen on all or some of their devices:

If you wish to stop using a Wallpaper Engine wallpaper, you can simply assign a new wallpaper in your Android settings. Wallpaper Engine is just another wallpaper to Android and wallpapers cannot unset themselves.

If you are using Wallpaper Engine as a wallpaper but the wallpaper disappears without any error messages after a few hours, days or weeks, it is likely being falsely terminated by your phone's power saving functionality. Under normal circumstances, Android should never terminate live wallpapers for power saving purposes but some users have reported this happening to them. This depends largely on your device manufacturer, if Wallpaper Engine disappears regularly, disable power optimization for Wallpaper Engine in your Android settings. This differs depending on your Android version and device, if you are unsure, search the web for ways to disable power optimization for apps on your exact mobile device name. e24fc04721
