Since 2010, he has partnered with scientists and universities to perform extensive research on the effects of meditation on the brain and body. During his advanced retreats around the world, his team has gathered more than 18,000 brain scans (quantitative QEEG) and 10,000 heart-rate variability (HRV) measurements in an attempt to correlate the effects that sustained elevated emotions and self- regulation have on heart and brain function, immune response, and overall mind- body health.

I got introduced to walking meditations by Dr Joe Dispenza. My first one was on the beach in Cancun, Mexico, while on a retreat with him. And it was monumental. I will always remember my first walking meditation. Obviously, it was a special experience as I was with 1700 other people doing it simultaneously. It was incredible.

That was now 1.5 years ago and to be honest for the first months I never tried it out at home for myself. I would always just do it when on the Dr Joe Dispenza retreats. And during those walking meditations, I had the most amazing experiences.

So last September I then finally got myself to do them at home. I did a 30-day challenge where I did a walking meditation every day. I shared my experience back then in Episode 63 if you are interested.

You can use guided meditations which you can either buy or use free options from YouTube or meditations apps. When you are new to walking meditations it makes sense for you to use a guided one as you are not used to them yet.

I always feel so much more connected to the future that I want to create when I walk as that new version of me. And I shared in previous episodes that I get messages and insights from my higher self mostly during walking meditations. So I am not even better connected to my body in this meditation practice but as well more connected to my higher self.

You start with standing instead of walking. During that time you are guided into a meditative state with your eyes closed. After a few minutes, you open your eyes and then, you are asked to start walking.

Then you are guided to stand again and close your eyes to move back into a deeper meditative state. This might be the end of the meditation or you have another walking part to do depending on the length of the meditation.

Some guided walking meditations ask you to lie down at the end of the meditation. If you can do that and your surroundings allow it, do it. It helps your nervous system to integrate what you created during the walking meditation.

I've been meditating for about 30 minutes to an hour daily for the past few months, but I've found that the typical 'sit down with your eyes closed' meditations particularly challenging because my mind is usually exhausted, and so I tend to almost drift off into sleep, suddenly regain my awareness, and then start drifting off again.

As an alternative, I've started walking meditations every other day which keep me alert and interested enough such that maintaining awareness is much easier. Walking meditations also have the added benefit of being able to maintain focus on the ever-changing world around you, and losing the 'self' in the sense of becoming fully immersed in the events outside the body. There are also techniques you can try, like imagining the world as a work of art, which cultivates a sense of wonder and appreciation in the mundane. I'm also starting to find that walking meditation cultivates a better understanding of the connection between the world and the mind. You start to see the relationship between the events going on around you and the way your mind responds/reacts to them.

The downside of walking meditations is that you obviously still have to think about walking and maintain a certain level of vigilance (don't get hit by a car or a bike!), which prevents entering a deep state of silence and complete loss of ego. That's why I still do the 'eyes closed sit down' meditation every other day.

Anyways, just thought I'd share because this is something I've found useful. I'd be curious to hear if anyone else practices walking meditation or a balance between walking and silent (eyes closed) meditation.

Overall the experience was more impactful, fun, and transformational than I could have predicted. I had a feeling it was going to be really good. But I had no idea just how good it would feel.

Getting started on your own meditation practice can often feel intimidating. This is a great place to start. In this short video, we walk you through setting up your physical body and breath and finish with a short meditation together. A great way to get you set up for your own home practice.

A 12-minute video meditation incorporating a unique Kundalini arm variation, opening up our hearts. We will practice the arm variation together for a few minutes and then sit together in meditation. This is a wonderful variation to add to your meditation practice when you need to open up your heart center.

A 14-minute video meditation helping you step into your own power and worth. We so often unknowingly give our power away to others, this meditation helps us reclaim our worth, our voice and our power. e24fc04721
