N.B. The there are duplicates in the entries but that's fine. You will need to scroll around the spreadsheet to see all the details.

We now have castles from North Wales, West Wales and South Wales and one from Essex!

U3A Wales Region - Castles SLP (Responses)

We have received a database submission from a member of Sudbury U3A, Essex. It is Hedingham Castle. I was wondering if Hedingham Castle could be linked to a castle or castles in Wales. Well yes, although the following connection is somewhat tenuous, I tracked this down. (I did use Wikipedia so the information would need to be verified) .

The Connection:

Hedingham Castle c.1100 in Essex and Flint Castle built 1277-1283), North Wales.

Hedingham Castle was the primary seat of the Earls of Oxford

It transpires that Robert de Vere, Duke of Ireland, Marquess of Dublin, and 9th Earl of Oxford KG (16 Jan. 1362 - 22 Nov. 1392), was a favourite and court companion of King Richard II of England.

In 1399 prior to his abdication, Richard II of England was captured and held by Henry Bolingbroke at Flint Castle before being returned to London.

If anyone can find any other information, that would be most interesting. Are there links with any other Welsh castles?
