Stat-based candy can be used by any Pokmon to raise the AV of a specific stat, depending on the kind of Candy. They come in three sizes: regular, L and XL. They are more commonly found than species-specific Candy, as multiple of these Candies are often required to raise a single AV point. As a Pokmon's AV increases for a stat, it will require more and larger Candy to further increase the same stat by one AV. Regular-sized Candy can only raise a stat up to 50 AVs. L-sized Candy can go up to 100 AVs, but require the Pokmon to be at least level 30. XL-sized Candy can reach the maximum 200 AVs, but only work for level 60 and up.
Catching a wild Pokmon may sometimes award player a random number of Candy. The higher the player's Catch Combo, the more likely that higher quantities and larger Candies will be awarded. A player may start earning regular-sized Candy after catching 30 Pokmon; Candy L can be earned after catching 60 Pokmon, and Candy XL can be earned after catching 90. Players may start earning species-specific candy after catching a total of 120 Pokmon.

Since you can get candy for feeding Pokemon in gyms, I tend to favor feeding Pokemon for which I need candy over feeding my own Pokemon. These are generally Pokemon that I have caught, but haven't yet collected enough candy to evolve. Would this work for Pokemon I haven't caught yet, allowing me to get a jump start on collecting candy to evolve them once I do catch them?

This came up in another thread and according to official rulings once they're on the board they are basic pokemon. I think it's likely an oversight since rare candy + fossil isn't the most efficient strategy for a lot of decks that use them.

In a large update, Pokemon Go changed the player level cap from 40 to 50. This meant that all the player's Pokemon can have higher CPs than ever before as the CP maximum is tied to the player's level. However, to power up your Pokemon past the level 40 CP cap, you need a special kind of candy: Candy XL.
Using XL Candy works the same way as using regular Candy. Select the Power Up option to start. If players want to use XL Candy to get to level 50 immediately, they'll need Stardust, regular candy (of that Pokemon's species), and 296 pieces of XL Candy per non-Shadow Pokemon (with Shadow Pokemon needing more).
Make sure to choose wisely when evolving a Pokmon. Your candy deposit will be depleted after an evolution, and if a Pokmon has more than one evolutionary form, you may want to wait until you have enough resources on your hands to evolve your Pokmon all the way. It's also a good idea to evolve your strongest Pokmon, as evolution will continue to power it up.

A Rare Candy is an item that can level up a Pokmon. Rare Candies can be obtained as a tier 1 special drop, as a possible drop from boss Pokmon, or from Max Raid Battles. @Ryu_Niiyama I agree that it is simpler to understand (IV's and EV's aren't exactly an easy system for their 'key demographic' to understand) but the grinding for all that candy must be unreal. IV's and EV's at least mean that my Pidgey feels different from their Pidgey, not all Pidgeys should be the same.
@bluemujika better than breeding and hatching trillions of egs to get the perfect IV + character pokemon just to grind specific pokemon for AV. Let's Go opend up a easy way for us normie fans to get some beefy pokemon without wasting our life away.
@RodSD64 The higher your catch combo for a Pokemon, the better IV's it's likely to have and the higher chance it has of being shiny, until it caps off at a 31 combo. That's the point where at least 4 IV's are always perfect and the shiny chance is better than 1:400. (I forget the exact number, and it's even better with shiny charm + lures) Not to mention the catch bonus for higher combos increases, meaning more candy and items.
I am trying to write a simple excel formula to calculate the number of evolutions I can make based on my candy and number of pokemon. I am trying to maximize XP, so I am only trying to evolve any given pokemon once. For some reason I couldnt find this in a brief google search.
