Boys Basketball
Our Wakefield Wolves boys basketball team went head to head with the non-conference Neuse River Ravens this past Thursday, January 26th. Chase Sizer started off the game by winning jump-ball and heading straight into quarter one with an unassailable offense. The boys had smooth passing and great blocks to start the game off. Towards quarter two, they kept their momentum and our defense got a lot stronger. By the end of the quarter the boys were playing great and got the score to 25-7 before halftime. Towards the middle of quarter three Neuse River was starting to make a comeback and really pressure our Wolves. The Ravens managed to score a total of 16 points in the third quarter bringing the score to 31-23. By the last quarter the game was getting intense, Neuse River was getting more comfortable defensively and made some great blocks. Our Wolves struggled a bit on offense but they didn’t stop trying. Our scorers were Kevin Howard, Isaiah Robinson, Chase Sizer, Josh Conti, Peter Stanicek, Amir Lewis and Avery Hicks. By the end of the game, our Wolves brought the score to 38-30 to make our record 9-1.
Girls Basketball
Our Wakefield Wolves girls basketball team also went up against the non-conference Neuse River Ravens. Nicole Amend started off the game by winning jump-ball for our wolves. They went into the game aggressive and jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The girls managed to lock up Neuse River’s two best players from scoring and had many great steals throughout the entirety of the game. Our Wolves had great passing which opened up the floor to drive the basket and overall played fantastic offensively and defensively. Everyone played great but Nicole Amend had a career high of 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, coming in behind her was Blythe Ruff with 14 points and 2 steals. Gigi Rosa made 9 points, Maddy Kusy had 8 points and 2 rebounds, and rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Kayla Pugh. They ended the game 49-10 to again add another great win to their record.
