Hello! Mingalarbar!
My name is Wai Yan Phyo Naing, a Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan, under the "Taiwan Fellowship Program-2026". I hold a PhD in History, specialising in International Affairs and International Regional Studies, from the National Research University – Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia. My doctoral dissertation is titled “The Evolution of Myanmar’s Policy Towards China (1988-2020)”. My research interests include History, International Relations, Regional Studies, ASEAN, Migration, and the dynamics of Myanmar–Russia and Myanmar–China relations.
I also serve as an Associate Research Fellow at the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation (CPR-Myanmar) and a Research Consultant at the Institute for Strategy and Policy (ISP-Myanmar), where I engage in a range of research projects on Myanmar. Previously, I served as the Senior Program and Field Technical Support Specialist at Raks Thai Foundation, an affiliate of CARE International, for four years. In this capacity, I had broadened my research scope to encompass the experiences of Myanmar migrants in Thailand, with a particular focus on labour rights and public health awareness within the Myanmar migrant community.
Additionally, I take great pride in volunteering as an Assistant Editor at the Southeast Asian Media Studies Journal, published by the Southeast Asian Media Studies Association, which further supports my expertise as a scholar from the ASEAN region.
