* UNDERGROUND WATER STORAGE AT RMUTT
Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi Opens Prototype Underground Stormwater Storage Learning Center, Welcoming ACTEC Delegates from Japan
August 1, 2025 – The Faculty of Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), hosted the presentation ceremony and official opening of the Prototype Underground Stormwater Storage Learning Centerunder the Water Adaptation Innovation Center (WAIC). WAIC is a specialized research unit focused on the design and development of water-related innovations across four scales: urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, and interior design.
The event was honored by the presence of a delegation from ACTEC, Japan, an organization that plays a key role in promoting international innovations in environmental and infrastructure development. Representatives from Thai government agencies and distinguished guests from various sectors also attended to witness the presentation of the prototype project, “Underground Rainwater Storage Innovation for Flood Prevention: Inspired by King Rama IX’s Monkey Cheek Concept.” The system, developed within the Faculty of Architecture, features an underground rainwater storage capacity of over 170 cubic meters, serving as both a practical water retention solution and a learning platform for future academic advancement.
On this occasion, the Vice President of RMUTT delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the university’s vision to become a hub of innovation and a training ground for innovators ready to meet the challenges of the modern world. The collaboration with ACTEC and the Embassy of Japan in Thailand marks the beginning of an expanded academic and technological partnership in the region.
Today’s program also featured the presentation of the PRSS (Plastic Rainwater Storage Structure) engineering and design report, an exhibition of WAIC projects, and a site tour of the actual installation area, which is currently under construction and undergoing system testing.
